Does being cold help you lose weight?!
Question: Does being cold help you lose weight!?
Just had an interesting thought while im sitting here too lazy to get a jacket!. Does being cold help you lose weight!? I'm not planning on using it as a way to lose weight but when you are cold your metabolism increases and you also start to shiver - wouldn't these both help you lose more weight rather than if you were sitting nicely snug and warm!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Potentially, it can -- but in practice it probably won't work!. Lowering the temperature increases your thermogenesis (heat production through shivering and related mechanisms), which burns off more Calories; but (a) it's extremely small, (b) the individual variation in this response is extremely high, and (c) unless you strictly control your food intake, you will unconsciously eat more to compensate!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
You are right when the dody is cold your metabolism speeds up, it uses up energy to keep you warm, by shivering etc!. One doctor recommends turing your heating down slightly in winter as it burns more energy than walking around with tropic temperatures!. Calories/kilojoules are the body's energy supply, so being colder does use up more energy!. Just don't get too cold though! And yoiu won't lose a lot of weight either!. Also any marginal benefit would be lost if you eat more fattening foods, which yiou tend to in summer, and if you're cold you can be less inclined to exercise so you could end putting on more weight!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Your body tries to maintain a certain temperature at all times!. In warm weather, it is easier to maintain that 37 degrees centigrade!. Sometimes your body sweats to cool down any overheating, and expands blood vessels close to the surface of the skin to cool the internal temperatures down!.
Conversely, in cold temperatures vasoconstriction occurs which basically means blood vessels close to the surface of your skin contract in order to preserve heat internally!.
So in short you will burn more calories when temperatures are colder than when they are at a level which maintains body temperature easily!.
However, if you eat more calories than you burn then you will not lose weight!.

Possibly one of the most stupid things I've ever heard!.
EDIT - yes, legitimate if the weight loss was actually significant!.
You burn calories but not enough to lose weight to get thin!.
Your body burns more calories to create energy to keep you warm but a human wouldn't notice any weight loss!.
Sorry if I offended you, didn't realise it was you who thought of it and not someone who told you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Keep a low temperature where you live and don't use so much clothes as often as possible!.
It's not the most comfortable way but you will save money and lose weight!
