The focus of your meals should be:
lean protein--
beef, turkey, chicken, fish, pork, eggs!.!.!.any of that will work but buy lean cuts!. Limit hamburger to once a week and buy the 90% fat free!. It's just as good, I promise!.
veggies--
of all kinds without butter or sauces but a tiny bit of olive oil would be okay
fruits--
of all kinds
whole-grains--
whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta, brown rice instead of white, potatoes are fine (without butter) but sweet potatoes are healthier
low-fat dairy--
skim milk (at least for the adults), low-fat or fat-free yogurt, 2% cheese
heart-healthy oils--
olive oil, canola oil, avocados, olives
