Becoming flexible is definitely possible but is also pretty hard!. It requires a lot of discipline!. However with a little determination and time (a long time) you can acheive your goals!.

You want to stretch your muscles when they are most stiff to make the best gains; in the morning, before bed and before and after a workout!. I also stretch periodically throughout the day whenever a muscle feels stiff or whenever there is a couple minutes to do so!. Another good time to stretch is while watching TV or a movie or any other time you might otherwise be sedentary!.

Pay attention to how your body feels when stretching as well!. Don't over stretch!! A good stretch should have good tension on the muscle but should NOT be painful or too uncomfortable!. If it's painful then ease it back a bit!. Also, do not bounce when stretching!. This has a tendancy to not only over-stretch the muscle, but damage or injure other soft tissue and then you might lose all the progress you made because you have to let it heal!.

Yoga has some very good multiple-muscle stretches that can help you gain flexibility and strength more quickly!. Start out slow and stick with it!. If yoga is not your thing, this website has some simple but very effective starting stretches; http://www!.mayoclinic!.com/health/stretch!.!.!.

I used to take gymnastics and I was very flexible!. When I stopped I no longer exercised or stretched (I was 10) so I lost that flexibility!. When I was 15 I started exercising and yoga everyday, was a part of my routine!. After about one year I had my flexibility back!. I am now 18 and doing yoga at least 4 times a week!. Yes, try stretching 5 x a week pre/post workout!. Remember to use slow, controlled stretches and NOT bouncy or jerky ones!. These "bouncing" ones can cause severe tendon damage!. Toe reaches, side bends, ham stretches, these are all good ones!. You can go to bodybuilding!.com and check out their stretching workouts for ideas if you don;t know how to do the aforementioned!.

Hope this Helps
