Fitness question ?!

Question: Fitness question !?
I have just bought a skipping rope and a set of dumbells!. I'm doing about 35-40 minutes 4-5 times a week!. I'm usually doing about 20 minutes skipping getting my heart rate to between 70-90% of its maximum!. Then I'll do some weights and basic resistance work (pressubs /situps/etc) Finish with a couple of stretches, and then go and lie down for a bit! lol

Anyone any idea how good skipping is for an all round cardio workout, and any suggestions on how to best tailor my workout for general tone and fitness!. I'm not really a big fan of runningWww@Answer-Health@Com

well, 2 things that you like basketball and swimming are excellent for that!.!.I think you said you like yoga!.!.I'd try Bikram yoga if you can at all!.!.it's hot yoga; 105-108 degree room ; hatha yoga and a 90 minute class!. I'm really hooked , if I weren't already so busy I'd do it at least 5 times a week!. But 2-3 is plenty, even 1 would be a good supplement to another workout!.
general fitness!.!.I do about the same ; cardio for 40-60 mins and then pushups, situps!. I just added lunges, we won't get into why ;) Plank is great, too!. I just played around with a bunch of exercises until I figured out what I like!. So , I am about to change up my routine!. But I was doing the cardio then 4 sets ;100 reps each of ab exercises, and 40 pushups (10 each set)!. I threw in plank and this other thing where you lay on your back and lower both leg a few inches from the floor and hold as til you can't then do scissors!.!.not sure what that is called!. Anyway, I only do that twice a week!.!.!.because I still do karate, yoga, and bellydance!.!.so there just isn't enough time!. I think mixing things up with activities you enjoy is important though!. k, 'night ;-)

Oh, and sex is great!.!.but of course you notice where I'm blowing my energy off these days ;-)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well naturally running is best for cardio then skipping but a word of warning about skipping, do it on a surface that has some spring to it like a thin matted carpet, doing it on concrete will do serious damage to the joints in your feet, knees and will result in shin splinters!.
I know this because it happened to me and exercising with injuries is not nice!.

As for swimming, yes it's good but you know I really don't think it's that good because when you get to the point where your tired your techniquee drops and it's really hard to breath resulting in a workout that I see only improves your breathing because your trying not to drown!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Skipping is good all round cardio - I'd suggest upping to 25-30mins so you spend a few minutes outside of the normal 20!.

If you just want to tone with the weights, select lower weights with higher reps!. (If you wanted to build muscle, do higher weights and lower reps)!. I recommend also adding something other than skipping to your cardio, perhaps cycling or swimming once a week!?

Follow up your routine with high protein meal - tuna is excellent!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Swimming is one of the best exercises period!. Really good for cardio!. I am not a big fan of swimming long distances at once, but what I do is like sprints!. Swim hard for a lap take a little break, then do another one!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have absolutely no idea but I bet you look well fit *drools* hehe ;)Www@Answer-Health@Com

I run !.!.!. to the pub !.!. xxWww@Answer-Health@Com

I would recommend doing hard workouts that tone you more, instead of doing easy ones!. If you have already acquired a good amount of muscle mass, I would say to do lot's of hard stuff, like benchpressing heavy weights and doing as many chinups as you can in one go!. If you constantly just lift dumbells that are easy for you to lift over and over, it doesn't help very much and you only acquire strength to do that particular task; lifting dumbells!. I would also say to do a good set of stretches everyday, and also try jumping on the spot as high as you can go about 30 times, it will help you jump higher!. For abs I would do leg raises, with your waist on the edge of a table and your legs hanging over, you lift your legs up high, then bring them down almost to the ground, slowly!. It helps burn the fat and expose the muscles!. Also, try doing the bicycle run, where you lie back on the ground and keep your arms at your side, and start "pedalling" your legs like you are on a bicycle!. Do this for 5 minutes everyday!. As for situps, do NOT do them all the way up to the sitting position; doing this damages your spine and back and it is not good for you!. Instead just do crunches, where you don't actually sit up, but come only half or quarter way!. If you have a bar than can support your weight, do chinups on it, once everyday as far as you can go!. Good chinups are when you lower yourself ALL the way down, and pull yourself ALL the way up, and repeat!. The half cinups many people do only trains your biceps, but the full chinup also trains your back and several other muscles!. Finally, I would do a benchpress bar lift up!. where you put the bar (I don't know how to call it) with the weights that you use for benchpressing on the ground!. and put heavy weights on it!. DO NOT put weights that are too heavy, as you may damage your back!. Try it out with a few weights, and pick the one that is the best combination between hard and easy!. Put it on the ground, feet shoulder width, crouch down with your knees, grab the bar, and stand up WITH YOUR KNEES!. If you pull with only your back, you can severely damage it!. After you have stood up, raise the bar over your head with your arms fully extended, then bring it back down to the ground slowly!. Do this until you feel quite tired!. And of course, the pushups are good, as is the skipping rope!.
Also, if you want to tone your body, eat lots of vegetables!. Don't eat ONLY vegetables, but make sure you eat A LOT of them and a variety of them everyday!. You lose fat and feel good and all the other plusses of vegetables!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
