Question: I enjoy exercise but have no idea how fit I am- how can I tell!?
I cycle a lot and enjoy jogging, but I've never had an exercise buddy!. For all I know I could actually be quite unfit, run really slow or not cycle far at all!.
How can assess whether or not I am 'fit', 'average' or 'unfit' to begin with!? I'm a 23 year old male!.

There are many different types of fitness - a sprinter may be fit but you could probably run a mile faster than most sprinters if you are a half decent runner!. Likewise is a marathon runner fitter than someone who runs 800 metres!?
Fitness is affected by many factors including bodytype (genetic) and levels of bodyfat/musculature!. The most reliable overall test is probably a VO2 max test that some of the better gyms can arrange for you!. This wil measure your Oxygen usage whilst exercising and tell you how effeciently you use it at a given heart rate!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you can go to a council gym and do a fitness test on a treadmill or bike and then you can see how fit you are based on your age, weight, height!. You can check you resting heart rate (pulse) by timing how many beats in a minute to see the health of your heart!.
Or you can choose a course to cycle or run measure the distance and then time youself doing it and then look online at similar times to see if you compete!.

run as fast aas you can as far as you can and when you get worn out see how many miles you ran then you will know whether your fit or not lol

Try joining a local bicycle group ride!. Most areas have one & they are a good way to judge how "fit" you really are!. Also, they are heaps of fun!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
