Answers:
First of all your minimum caloric intake should be more along the lines of 1350 calories, not 1200!. Calculating your Basal Metabolic Rate I get 1372 calories/day!. Also sounds like you are the typical high school girl who is "afraid of carbohydrates!." With all of the running and working out you do, you NEED carbohydrates to replenish glycogen stores in the muscle and improve fitness levels!. Pre-exercise you should add a light meal that consists mainly of CHO (carbohydrates) 2 hours or immediately before running!. During exercise lasting longer than 1-4 hours you should also be consuming a high GI CHO like a sports drink to maintain liver glycogen stores!. After working out be sure to again consume a high GI CHO food or drink!. Chocolate milk works well and adds some protein to help with muscle protein synthesis!. Your stomach is probably "pooching out" due to the deprivation of carbohydrates!. Ever seen the 3rd world country commercials!? Children deprived of nutrition often display distended bellies due to inadequate intake of CHO/nutrients!. You seem to have the right idea but do not skip out on carbohydrates, they will make you leaner in the long run!. Also remember that an athletes diet should contain roughly 60-70% carbohydrates!. Just remember when to eat low GI foods and high GI foods!. Typically the only time you should eat high GI foods is during and post exercise to quickly replenish glycogen stores!.
