What are 'healthy calories' and 'bad calories'? ?!


Question: What are 'healthy calories' and 'bad calories'!? !?
I've heard this term a lot, but I don't know exactly what they mean by that!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think it's more along the lines of avoiding "empty calories!."

Like white bread, at about 110 calories a slice, is a source of empty calories!. Not really any vitamins, nutrients, proteins, etc!. to it!. Items that don't do anything for you nutritionally are "empty calories!." And since you only should get a certain amount of calories a day, you don't want to waste them with junk, you'd rather have nutrient dense calories!.

Like somethings with lots of calories have enough good things about them to make them a healthier choice than something with less calories!. There are 190 calories in you average seving of peanut butter, and quite a bit of fat (though it's not the "bad" kind and your body does need fat to work) but there's also a lot of protein!. So there's more calories in some peanut butter on either apple slices or celery than there are in a pack of skittles, but which do you think is the better choice health-wise!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

First you need to understand the definition for calories!. Below are three definition taken from a Microsoft word dictionary:

1!. unit of energy: a unit of energy equal to 4!.1855 joules, originally defined as the quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of 1 g of pure water by 1o C!.
It has now been superseded by the joule in scientific usage!.
2!. larger unit of energy: a unit of energy equal to the heat required to raise the temperature of 1 kg of pure water by 1o C
3!. unit of food energy: a unit of energy-producing potential in food, equal to one large calorie!.
This energy, if not used, is converted to fat and stored!.

So then based on the above definition are there healthy calories as against bad calories!? The answer is no!.

There are however foods that are of greater calorie source than others!. Fatty foods, meats, foods high in carbohydrates are of higher calorie source than fruits and vegetables!. Even among carbohydrate, processed or simple carbohydrate foods are of higher source of calories than complex carbohydrates!. For example flour, a simple or refined carbohydrate has a value of 12,000 calories per pound as against sweet potato a complex carbohydrate which has a value of 400 calories per pound!.

It follows then that what we should be looking for is what foods will supply us with other nutrients along with calories!. White flour you know has nothing to offer other than starch/calories!. Sweet potatoes on the other hand supply potassium along with other nutrients as well as starch and calories!. It follows that sweet potatoes would be the better food to eat over white flour dumpling, water cracker or bread!. Whole wheat flour or any other whole wheat products carries caloric value of over 1700 per pound which is still more than that supplied by yam (527c/lb), potatoes (400 c/lb), or cassava (726 c/lb)!.

It should also be noted that excess calories in the diet is stored as fat for later use!. That is why it is recommended to eat mostly complex carbohydrate, fruits and vegetables in order to avoid obesity!.
