Question: I am 13, and very fat, but on the swim team and colorgaurd! Help!!!?
Okay, by very fat, I mean 200 lbs!. I'd like to diet, but not to noticeble, and not health freak!. I am on the swim team, (like 50 yds freestyle in 32 seconds) I practice 2-3 days a week!. I also have colorgaurd!. Once marching season is o ver, I will swim 4 days a week, and our PE program is very involved, with 2 cardio days a week, and a mile run every other week, so I will get plenty of exercise!. Hi, Vasooki, your exercise regime is impressive! I'm sure you already know that swimming is one of the very best things you can do for your health! You're also lucky that your mom cooks with the Weight Watchers guidelines in mind!. So many kids complain that their parents don't even bring healthy foods into the house!.

Here are some weight loss suggestions to help you reach your goal:
There's two ways you could go and I think either way will work for you!. First of all, my best suggestion is to learn to eat healthy!.

That means understand the food pyramid, the food groups, the recommended servings, etc!. That is how you should eat for life! If you eat that way and have 3 small, healthy meals a day and 2 small, healthy snacks, you will lose weight!. Each meal should be less than 400 calories and each snack should be about 100-150 calories!. Eating highly nutritious foods is the key, so think in terms of lean protein, veggies, whole-grains, fruits, low-fat dairy, and heart-healthy oils!.

The second option is to do a short-term "drastic diet" that is designed to last for 2 weeks max!. This would take off the most weight rapidly, but with all your exercise, I don't think this one would be a good idea!. There are several on the site under "Diet Plans" but my favorite is the 5-4-3-2-1 diet!.

You get to pick what you eat, but you're going to want to pick highly nutritious foods to keep your metabolism working efficiently!. Again, the "eat healthy" page can help you determine what highly nutritious foods are, if you need help with that!. If you go on the short-term diet, then once it's over, follow the guidelines on the "eat healthy" page!.

Make water your main source of hydration and save the sweet drinks (even diet) for special occasions!. Eliminate as much salt and sugar from your diet as you can!.

I hate to make suggestions for kids and young teenagers because good nutrition is so important!. It might be a good idea to ask your family doc what he/she recommends your daily calorie intake should be!.

When it comes to losing weight, as long as you consume less calories than you burn in a day, you will lose weight!. THe tricky part is figuring out how many calories you burn in a day (not just with exercise, but also the calories your body burns just functioning properly)!. I normally try to recommend something, but being 13 yrs old, it'd be better to get a doctor's opinion!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
