Ok!.!.!.i am entirely new to interval training but really want to start doing it as i've heard that it is an amazing way to burn fat, but first i want to check to see whether i am doing it right!.

If let's say i were to jump on a treadmill, cross trainer, bike etc!. and start off with a 5min warm up, and then do 2 mins moderate pace, and then 1 min really really fast, then go back to 2 mins moderate pace, then back to 1 min really really fast, and just keep repeating it!.!.!.!.is that interval training!?

Answers:
Yes, that's interval training!. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is one of the few forms of cardio that completely preserves muscle mass while reducing body fat 9 times more effectively than any other form of cardio!.

The reason it is so effective is because maximum fat loss takes place post-workout when the metabolic rate speeds up!. This is achieved through high intensity exercises, and HIIT's utilization of this principle makes it very effective!.

HIIT only needs to be done for 15 minutes!. I would recommend you do it 3 times a week, non-consecutively, to allow your central and peripheral nervous systems to recover, due to the high intensity of the workout!. Here is a better routine for HIIT if you are a beginner:

Minutes 1-5
Jog at about 50% effort

Minute 5
Sprint 30 seconds at maximum effort Jog/Walk 30 seconds

Minute 6
Sprint 30 seconds at maximum effort
Jog/Walk 30 seconds

Minute 7
Sprint 30 seconds at maximum effort
Jog/Walk 30 seconds

Minute 8
Sprint 30 seconds at maximum effort
Jog/Walk 30 seconds

Minutes 9-12
Jog at about 50% effortWww@Answer-Health@Com

what your thinking of is a type of training but not interval training!.
interval training is,

for example if you were doing running!.
u would set 3(or more) different lengs to run!.!.!. LONG SHORT and MEDIUM

then basicly run at a run-fast run on 1 of ur lengths, then have a 1 minute break then run the next 1 and keepgoing and going!.
You need to try and get ur breathing back to normal as much as possible!.

about 20 mins of this a good workout!.

hope this helps
