How long should I walk to lose weight?!


Question: How long should I walk to lose weight!?
I have lost 20 lbs in 2 months!. Can't seem to lose any more and want to lose 20 more!. A friend just told me that I am not walking the distance I should!. I only walk one half to three forths mile a day!. Should I up it to one to one and one half miles!? I have a foot problrm called nuroma in right foot !. Should I stand the pain and get that mile in or not!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

First of all, congrats on your weight loss!. For weight loss, an hour a day is ideal for burning good calories!. It's just as important to walk at an intensity that leaves you huffing and puffing to get the maximum benefit!. That would be a walk of 31/2-4 miles in one hour!. But!.!.!.since you have problems with your foot, it doesn't seem smart to walk more, and certainly don't walk through the pain! How about a different activity!? Biking is excellent!. Swimming laps is one of the best exercises there is! Many cities have rec centers with public indoor pools!. Just look for ways that you can be more active without being in pain!. Everything you do will burn more calories than sitting!.

The fact that you've reached a plateau probably means that your body is used to your diet and your exercise!. Our metabolisms get sluggish very easily! You get to pick what you eat, but you're going to want to pick highly nutritious foods to keep your metabolism working efficiently!.
The other thing that might work is to do the opposite of a "drastic diet" and that is to not diet at all for a few days to a week!. Again, it's all about shaking things up a bit!

You could slowly increase your distance!. Or you could try to cut calories!. 3500 calories=1 lb!. If you cut out as little as 500 calories a day, you could lose 1 lb!. a week!. It is best not to try to lose weight too fast!. A loss of 1 lb!. a week is 52 lbs!. in a year!. Cutting 500 calories should not be too difficult, in many cases all you have to do is stick to low fat snacks, low cal!. food items, etc!. Low fat bread has half the calories of regular bread!. If you can't seem to lose any more weight you have probably reached what's called 'a plateau'!.

To kick-start your weight loss try eating a little bit more!. Eat about 5-6 small meals at regular intervals during the day!.

There's lots more exercises you can do to lose weight other than walking!. I can't walk very far but there are tips and exercise suggestions you can do even while sitting down at home!.

Getting the fat off your butt can be hard!. For any weight loss program you always need to burn more calories than you eat!. This can be hard for some people!. if you have an injury then no you should not walk a longer distance because you may lose weight but its not healthy for another part of your body!. maybe talk to your doctor and tell him about your situation!. he may be able to offer help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
