I don't get this? average body fat %age, but BMI 29?!


Question: I don't get this!? average body fat %age, but BMI 29!?
Hi, okay so i've become overweight after my 2 pregnancies and want to lose some weight and get in shape!. i do eat very healthy but get no exercise at all apart from chasing my kids!.

So i went to a gym last week and they checked my BMI and body fat %age!. The woman there said, my body fat percentage 30 is normal ( 21 to 31 percent for women aged 30-35 is normal as she told me)
But my BMI is 29 which is quite high :( , ideally it should be below 25!.

But i don't get this, if my body fat percentage is normal whats the rest of the excess weight coming from!? i want to lose weight to a healthy level , but if my body fat percentage is okay then when i lose weight now will is be water weight and muscle!?!?

Do you have any muscle!? Maybe you have high bone density!? Also it's possible that you may have more internal fat that is not showing up with the kind of test she carried out (not saying this is the case but just a possibility)!.

You could get your body fat measured by DEXA (Duel Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) to be certain, as this will show external and internal body fat and is the most accurate type of body fat analysis available!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The BMI of bodybuilders is something like 35+, and they are in phenomenal shape!. You can't take a BMI reading as accurate in all cases!.

A body fat % is a very accurate way of finding your health!. If you have a lot of muscle, you will be heavier, and BMI assumes it's all body fat!.


Just go by your body fat reading!. :)
