Question: Going to the gym and loosing weight/the different machines!?
Hi i have just started the gym as im over weight, up to now i have only used the treadmill bikes step up thing (dont know what its called) in that 2 weeks i lost half a stone so thats good!. Now the person who runs the gym are going to show me the weights today and said i should do 1 day on all weight only then another on the treadmill etc does that work should i not be doing both at the same time will i still loose weight!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Weight training will build muscle and believe it or not this has an amazing ability to reduce body fat!.

Intensive resistance training raises the heart rate, which will burn fat!. In addition, muscle requires energy to sustain itself - in other words, the more muscle you have, the more calories your body will burn simply to sustain the muscle!. You will be burning calories without thinking about it, even while you sleep!
The best, safest way to permanently reduce body fat is to increase muscle mass!.

Having said that, cardio training is important in losing weight too!.
By the way - the treadmill burns way more calories than the bike - you are sitting down after all!

As for doing weights one day, cardio the other day, it does make sense!. If you use all of your energy doing one, you will be doing it to the most of your body's ability!. If you do half and half, you are only working to half your ability - say you start with the weights!. You could keep going, but you stop to go on the treadmill!. Only thing is, you've used half your energy up, and so won't be able to run as far or quick!.
Plus you'll be tired from the weights, and more likely to give up early!.
