Lifting weights can be hard on the joints for all of us let alone those of us whose bones and muscles are not fully developed!. Injured joints, undeveloped muscle structure, and undeveloped bone structure can lead to stress and other fractures!. Excessive and undue use of muscles can lead to repedative motion injuries (i!.e!. carpel tunnel) through ripped muscles!. In its worse form, undue stress can occur along the neck and spinal column leading to a lifetime of back injury!. Much of this is not an issue of working harder, working more, or lifting more/more often!. It is just that your puberty and hormone cycles have not completed!. There is a lot puberty and maturation that continues under the skin long after you have seemed to have changed outside of your skin!.

Why is it that you want to lift weights!? Are you trying to build up some muscle and bulk!? If so, look for exercises, routines, sports, activities, and chores that use your own body weight for resistance!. Again, your body is still in development and, I would be looking for low impact activities, Building lots of long lean muscle will position you to effortlessly bulk up as your body matures!. In your teen years, you may be encouraged to look at over-all number of inches of body-builder, surfer type bulky muscles!. By the time you reach 20-25, you will find that many look for over-all tone and what I will call the ratio of muscle to bone, or the amount of muscle that covers your bones and the definition of those muscles!.

Are you wanting to tone your body, then weight lifting is not the way to go!. What you want instead is long, lean muscle with reduced fat!. - By the way, this type of muscle seems to stay with people longer as they reduce their activities and/or as they enter middle age!. - The way to get this type of muscle is through repetition with little or no weight!.

Are you trying to lose weight and/or convert fat to muscle!? As an adult, if you are at certain levels of overweight and do too much weight lifting too fast into your weight loss program - you actually build muscle under your fat and/or marble your muscle with fat!. The goal is to end up with less over-all weight, flesh that doesn't jiggle, and skin that isn't marbled, and a nice, over-alll firmness; a little muscle definition isn't too bad either!. To get this, you need to exercise for toning which again says limited weights and many repetitions!. You can do this without lifting weights; your own body weight will suffice!.

Other than exercises, you might think about walking, swimming, and bike riding!. With walking, if you can safely walk in your neigborhood it is free; although you can go through more shoes!. The good news is that if you are bike riding for exercise, you don't need an expensive or particularly good bike!. You need a bike that fits you and makes you work hard; typically this is one that is cheaper, heavier, with fewer gears, and a shorter gear ratio!. A used bike is more than fine!. If you want to invest in a bike that you use for exercise, invest in safety gear such as a helmet, vest, reflectors, lights, mirrors, rain gear, panniers (bags), etc!.!.!. At 14, both walking and bike riding will give you more mobility and independence as well!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
