Question: Does walking really help lose weight!? And what else does it do!?
I am 28 and overweight bye about 60 lbs!. I don't get out much because my wife works and goes to school and I watch the kids!. I recently decided to try and lose weight!. so besides dieting and cutting out 12 sodas a day I starting walking about 3/4 a mile in the Mornings Now it is 20 degrees out so I don't know if that matters!. But is this brisk 20min walk do any good or is it a waste of time!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you are adding anything into your day that burns extra calories that you never burned before, you will start to lose weight!. As others have said since it takes 3500 calories to burn to lose a pound, walking for 20 mins a day may take a while to see results!. What it may do immediately is make you feel good, give you more energy, and perhaps open a door to more rigorous work outs!. Walking is definitely a great way to start!. I would try to get in at least 30 mins, though!.

I began a routine where I walked my dog every morning for 45 mins to an hour!. I lost 10 lbs in two months, but I had to stop because of knee pain!. Walking, running, and jogging can be tough on your knees, because they are relatively high impact activities!. I am only 23 and 30 lbs!. overweight, so I had to start using a cross trainer instead much to my dog's dismay!.

Also consider adding some strength training!. When you do cardio, you body will not burn calories long after your workout!. However, when you build muscle mass, your muscles will burn calories hours after your workouts! This is a great way to jump start your metabolism! You can even do this at home!. A brisk walk (enough to get the heart rate up) for an hour burns 500 calories!. So, an hour walk a day burns off a pound a week, which is a good rate (1-2 lbs per week loss is just right)!. This is with no other changes!.

However, exercise also speeds up the metabolism, meaning your body works at a higher rate, burning off more calories, and giving you more energy!.

Your 20 minutes might not make the pounds melt off, but as part of a program of proper eating, and other exercise, it is a great start, and will do a lot of good!.

Good for you for getting healthy - You will loose weight and gain lean muscle if you continue to walk at a quick pace - walk quickly for about 20 sec to start and then walk slower for about a min - do this for about 20 a day - and slowly build up the quickness of your pace to about 45-60 sec at a time - you will sleep better, feel better and look better!. !. !.The nice thing about walking is anyone can do it - and with a friend or your kids - what a great way of spending quality time with them!. Walking is the perfect exercise for losing weight!. See if you can't extend the walk a little!. The weather sucks and it's difficult, but get bundled up and go out for at least 20 minutes!. Try to extend it to 30 minutes or more if possible!. Fat will melt off your body and stay off, I promise!. Keep walking and you'll do just fine!. It's not the fastest way to lose weight, but it is the healthiest with the best results!.

Walking can help, but you need to do a LOT of it to have any effect!.

Figure about 100 calories per mile, with a pound of fat being the equivalent of 3500 calories!.

For exercise to do much, you should be doing at least an hour a day of something much more strenuous, like cycling, swimming, or running!. You may need to work up to that gradually if you're really out of shape!. Outside temperature doesn't matter if you dress for it!. The only days I run indoors is when the snow is too deep, or its icy!. Then its time for cross country skis!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I walk everyday!. Rain, sleet, snow etc!. I was about 10-15 lbs overweight!.!.!.!.and am now down to my goal weight!. I started eating healthy also!. It took me almost a year!.!.!.but the slower the weight comes off the longer it will stay off!. 20 mins is a good start!. I would aim for 45 mins!. sometimes I will walk with some light weights in my hands!. i love walking, its awesome as a stress reliever too!

Walking burns a little!. Ever since my mom got her new job, which involves lots of walking, her thighs have gone smaller, and she's lost a little weight!. So, I guess it works!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
