Am I reading too much into this?!

Question: Am I reading too much into this!?
Hi there

I am a recovering bulimic!. A few months ago, I went to my personal trainer Alex and revealed to her that I had bulimia!. She was supportive and has helped me so much, I haven't vomited in almost 2 months!

But now, I am a bit worried about her!. She has admitted to me that she used to be bulimic, I'm guessing in her early 20's so 10 yrs ago!. But is she showing signs that she is doing it again!?

I know she hadn't been training in a while!. All of a sudden, we are training together and for longer than an hour too!. That doesn't bother me, if anything, it's a compliment to know that I can train at her level :)

I knwo she is training for a triathlon in Feb 09!. But you woudln't be doing like 3 hours of training a day for that right!? Today, she got me to go with her and we did a cycle class, follwed by swimming!. In cycle, she seemed to be struggling, and afterwards, she showed me on her towel that she had coughed up blood!. She asked me if I thought it was bad!. I said yes, because it took 18 months of throwing up before I saw blood!. She said she was screaming yesterday and her throat was scratchy and we left it at that!.

I could be overreacting about all of this but I am worried!. Could she be vomiting again!? If I mention something and I'm wrong, then that's no good!. She is my friend, and she has helped me so much!. I don't want her to hurt herself!.

Thanks guys :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well I think you're in a good position (I believe there's always a bright side to situations)!. As a recovering bulimic, you probably know the signs better than anyone else!. Plus, you could relate to what what your trainer going through right now if she is bulimic!.

I would recommend approaching her directly and clearly about the subject!. Ask her if she is relapsing, and what you can do to help!. If she denies you, try going directing the conversation into your personal history as a bulimic!. That may give her the confidence to open up to you--knowing that you went through the same thing, but also that you are recovering now!. (I'm assuming that she is bulimic from what you've described!. Her behavior is unhealthy--be she bulimic or not!.)

Considering your history, I'm sure you'll come across as very compassionate when you approach her, and I think this boosts your chance of success by a lot!.

It's the same concept as the AA!. Recovering alcoholics have a better chance of staying alcohol free if they are surrounded by a supportive group of people who are all going through the same recovery process!.

Use your recovery process as a way to help her recover!.

Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think a good thing to do would be to find an anonymous hot-line that you can call for professional advice without revealing your or her identities!. They will be the ones to give the best advice!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

triathlons are one of the hardest things you can do , of course it would require 3 hours of training maybe even more!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Not reading too much, just typing too much!Www@Answer-Health@Com

well, if she is your friend, then she won't mind you asking her!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's a phase it'll pass!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Coughing up blood is bad regardless of whether she is also purging, and I can't see why she would be purging if she is also training!.

Don't focus on making a diagnosis, but do let her know that you care about her health, and encourage her to see a doctor about the issue at hand!.

Pint out that she will not be able to accomplish her goals if she is not in the best health, and let her know that you are there to support her!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
