What should my calorie intake be?!


Question: What should my calorie intake be!?
In about a month I lost around 25 pounds by eating only 600 calories a day!. I told people this and they told me that it was unhealthy!. So, I upped my calorie intake to about 1200 per day and gained three pounds this week!. Is this normal!? and if so, how long will it take to level out!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

First of all, 600 calories a day is VERY VERY unhealthy!. Your body burns about 1500-1700 calories a day on its own just keeping you alive!. That should be the bare MINIMUM you consume!. The reason you've gained three pounds is because you were basically starving yourself when you were living off of 600 calories a day!. That sent your body into starvation mode!. It began to save every bit it could because it didn't know when it was going to get more food!. When you upped you intake, it had more to store!. After a while, you body will become accustomed to the increase and things will level out again!.

25 lbs in a month is VERY extreme and VERY dangerous!. You need to eat much more than 1200 calories, even if you want to keep losing weight!. You are doing so much harm to your body- if you keep this up, your metabolism is going to slow down and you won't be able to lose weight easily anymore!. Chances are, 1200 calories is less than what your body needs to survive without even accounting for activity level (that includes simple activities like going to the bathroom or eating)!.
Those 3 lbs are your body hanging onto every calorie you feed it because it is "afraid" of you sending it into starvation mode again (under 1200 cals)!. It should even out in 1-2 weeks, provided you keep eating properly!. Google "calorie need calculator" and put in your stats to find out exactly how much you need!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Unless you are severly overweight, you should not eat below 1200 calories a day!. If you go below that, there is no way you will be getting all the nurtients you need!. Also, if you go below 1200 calories a day, you're body thinks you are starving so as soon as you start eating normally again, you will gain the weight right back (that explains the 3 pounds)!. I know it sucks to hear, but the healthiest and longest lasting way to lose weight is to lose 1-2 lbs per week!. Each pound of fat is 3500 calories, so if you cut out 500 calories a day, you'll lose 1 pound a week, and it'll be easier to keep it off!.
Also, there are many websites out there where you can calculate how many calories you need a day based on your height, weight, etc!.
