Is 10 mins per day enough?!

Question: Is 10 mins per day enough?
I run 4 miles everyday at the gym. I want to keep my muscle though so I spend at least 10-20 mins doing: 80 bicep reps, 20 shoulder presses, 20 tricep reps, things like that. Is this allotted amount of time spent on muscle "building" enough to keep my muscles from shrinking? On top of this I carry around a 25 pound bag to school and walk around with it.

Answers:

You should at least do about 30mins a day. If you really want to tone your muscles, try Bob Harper Inside Out Method. It's a 1hr video, but it's great with toning muscles. Good Luck =)

if you don't need to carry that bag around, DON'T. you're looking at back problems and unilateral imbalances in your muscles. as far as the time you spend lifting, 30 minutes 3-4 times a week should be plenty. in order to build and maintain muscle mass there's a couple critical elements.
Keep your reps low, 6-10, with sets of 3-4 shooting for a total of 25-35 reps.
Use good form, don't try and lift more weight than you can lift with perfect form. just cuz people can throw 130 pounds into a curl position with their hips doesn't make their arms any stronger. self discipline is crucial for form.
Use a temp for you lifts. such as 3 second on down or negative phase of the lift, a one second rest at the middle of your rep or no rest at all and a 1 second up or concentric phase of the lift (the hard part)
Make sure you're using enough weight to reach failure at no more than 10 reps.
Make sure you are using powerful, multi joint movements such as benchpress, deadlift, squat and clean and jerk. yes, these exercises are perfectly safe when done with correct form. if you're not proficient with them, find someone who is to teach you.
Use creatine as a preworkout supplement about 45 minutes before you lift.
Always do cardio AFTER you lift if you are doing them the same day
Make sure you rest. Try to keep your workouts split up so you have enough rest for each body part. if you're still sore somewhere, don't train that part of your body that day as you will only over train, causing the muscle to literally eat itself to get the proteins it needs to recover and your muscle will get smaller and weaker.
You don't need all those protein powder. certainly not if you're lifting 30 minutes 3 times a week. the only other supp i would look at is a BCAA complex. pill or powder.
if you're doing 80 bicep curls in one day, no matter how well you do them, it will not help. that is wayyy too many reps and your muscle is conditioning itself rather than building and maintaining it's size.
