Water is the best drink you can ever have and really it does not matter when you drink it, before , after or during. Water is anytime drink. Juice and soda not good when eating, but best after then wash down with water.

Common sense

Depends on the meal. With hot/spicy food, definitely during the meal or you'll be thirsty all evening.

I've heard it said, though, that if you put water in your mouth with the food in order to get dry food down, that is not healthy because your saliva-glands get out of training and saliva plays a part in the digestive process.

On the other hand, if eating food becomes a chore because a) it tastes crappy which doesn't produce saliva or b) you have to wrangle down very un-juicy food, you might start avoiding meals, which is definitely bad for you. (My own experience with an anti-drinking-during-meals parent.) So all in all, I'd say do whatever you like.

If your at home whatever you want. My mom drinks water with her food. If your at a restaurant I would say its not "proper" to drink water during your meal. At the beginning some restaurants give you water, you can drink it. Then they ask you if you will like something to drink and then your meal. But personally I don't care if I want to drink water I drink it. Hope this helps.

You should drink water BEFORE eating. And when you eat. It keeps you from overeating :)
