Question: Is orange juice really not healthy?
well, i was reading this article and it said oj is not healthy. Once it hits you it turns into sugar and its the same as soda. Is this true?

Orange juice IS healthy, "articles" from non-medical sites are just looking for hits and are more sensational than true.

OJ is largely fructose, but it natural (not like just adding processed corn syrup to sodas) and has a myriad of vitamins and nutrients your body uses immediately.
Since it is relatively high in calories, either go with a 1/2 juice-1/2 water mix, or limit your daily intake.

Orange juice is healthy, don't cut out the foods that are good for you and substitute them with chemical diet crap or foods with less calories/sugar but no nutritional value.



Your body needs sugar, a lot of things turn into sugar that you eat and drink. It is the fuel that enables you to move your muscles and grow and all that. Your heart is a muscle, it wouldn't beat without sugar.

Refined sugar is bad for you because it adds unnecessary sugar to a healthy diet without adding any other useful components. Orange juice is good for you because it contains a lot of other things than (fruit-)sugar, like fibre and vitamins. I don't like eating fruits much, but I put them in a powerful juicer that doesn't remove all the fibre and I think that is a really good alternative to eating fruits.



Orange Juice have a lot of benefits, but also a little downside.

1)Orange juice is known to contain a high percentage of Vitamin C, which is helpful in boosting the immune system.
2)Various medical studies show that orange juice may help
lower both cholesterol levels and blood pressure levels
Disadvantage:
1)since orange juice is fairly high in calories,
avoid drinking too much of the stuff.

So does pizza, beer, vegetables, lasagne, spagetti,potatoes. Because your body metabolizes(burns) sugar.as well as absorb nutrients and vitamins. OJ has vitamin C and some minerals and fibre. Soda has "0" anything. It is liquid flavoured sugar.
Straight sugar burns like gasoline=instantly gone. Your body needs the vitamins and minerals to repair itself and if you are growing "add to the body mass with more muscle cells and bone cells" If you were doing a marathon best you down a couple of cooked potatoes(baked or boiled). Deep frying just adds fat to the fat you already got.
Excess sugar(that, that is not required for the exercise slowly will become fat - but if you are physically active each day, you will burn that excess potato away. It is always good to be hungry before the next meal.
If you sit at a computer or TV all day, well, plan to be a tub of lard.



Its not that it "turns into sugar"
it is sugar, the sweetness of the juice is because it has a lot of natural sugar in it.
If you don't drink huge quantities of it or are not Diabetic, the sugar should not be
a problem & its NOT worse that "soda" in that soda-pop drinks have all sorts of
UN-NATURAL crap in them & REAL orange juice is good for you given moderation.



If you get an orange and make it yourself than it is delicious and much healthier, so I suggest that :) Store bought has added preservatives to it and a lot of sugar.

the commercial kinds are nutritious somewhat,,but contain a lot of chemicals too,,which are not heatlhy at all,,even unhealthy.

fresh squeezed orange juice IS healthy,,or just eat an orange.



It depends. If its concentrated orange juice, then thumps up!
If its not concentrated orange juice, then thumps down!



Homemade orange juice is healthy. But orange juice from stores isn't very healthy with all the chemicals and stuff :)
