Answers:

Here's what the experts at the CDC have to say about how much protein you need to provide to support your metabolic processes. --> http://www.cdc.gov/nutrition/everyone/ba… Vegetarian or not, you can easily satisfy your protein RDA with a proper diet.

Here's what one website has to say..."Vegans should not worry about getting enough protein; if you eat a reasonably varied diet and ingest sufficient calories, you will undoubtedly get enough protein. Protein deficiency, or "kwashiorkor," is very rare in the U.S. and is usually diagnosed in people living in countries suffering from famine."

Here's one more..."It is very easy for a vegan diet to meet the recommendations for protein, as long as calorie intake is adequate. Strict protein combining is not necessary; it is more important to eat a varied diet throughout the day."
Ref: http://www.vrg.org/nutrition/protein.htm

You should not have to resort to over priced supplements which are nothing more than milk or soy with the nutrition sucked out leaving only the protein, then sold to you for more than you would pay for real food. In other words, supplements are taking more money from you and providing less nutrition and that's a bad deal not matter how you look at it. So, use the junk your dad bought and then start eating what your body needs...real wholesome food.

Good luck and good health!!

?

PS: You may want to think about the reason your doctor said "beans and nuts" and your dad bought "Special K and protein shakes".
