Is it bad to take more than one vitamin/day?!

Question: Is it bad to take more than one vitamin/day?
I took centrum forte and quest one/day for women. Is that too much? Or does "too much" not really exist with vitamins. Should I just limit myself to one of them? Thanks.

PS I took them around the same time too. Is it better to spread them out?

Answers:

Its possible to have overdoses on vitamins. Vitamin C overdoses were a common problem when Sunny Delight was first released on the market. Because it had such a high vitamin C content parents were giving it to their kids by the bucket load and the children were suffering from the symptoms of vitamin c overdoses (severe back pain jaundice sore gums cavities etc) [citation needed- its a story i was told second hand by my old biology teacher]

The point is its very easy to OD on vitamins if you take excessive amounts. But without going to that extreme its still not very good for your kidneys and liver if they have to process like 700% of your folic acid intake because you are taking two different types of multivitamins. One does the job so just take the one. Its cheaper too...

You should not take any vitamin supplements without a reason. And, if you have a reasons, supplement only the vitamins you require. The NIH advises that all supplements, because they are minimally regulated by the FDA, should only be taken at the recommendation of a health care professional.

Vitamins KADE are the fat soluble vitamins which you're body may retain or store in fat cells and, therefor, be toxic if taken in sufficient quantities. So, yes, vitamins can be toxic and make you sick though only two pills in one day is not likely to be enough to cause problems.

Also, increasingly vitamins and other supplements are being manufactured by questionable companies using poor quality ingredients purchased from China and other foreign countries with poor or no quality standards and controls. This accounts for recent studies by independent laboratories which show popular multivitamin supplements contained trace amounts of heavy metals, toxins, and other contaminants.

If you must take supplements, buy major brands. Look on the package for the manufacture and make sure it's a substantial company whose name you recognize such as Bayer or Wyeth.

Good luck and good health!!

It is important to read the instruction first for everything you take so that you will know what are you going to do.

If you look on the back of the bottle it should show you how much you should take according to age.
