What is the best grip to use when doing pull ups?!

Question: What is the best grip to use when doing pull ups?
I want to build some back strength, but there are so many variations for the grips, some easier than others.

Can you tell me the difference between neutral, underhand, and overhand pull ups and which one is the best to build back strength? Thanks.

Answers:

Close grip hammer chins- lat thickness

Wide grip pullups are more for stretching the scapulae and hitting the upper/outer lats and building width.

Wide grip chins also stretch the scapulae and hit the lower/outer lats hard

Behind the neck pullups and chins hit the upper lats hard

Close grip chins and pullups are for hitting the lower lat attachments

I personally prefer to use wide grip chins with a thumbless grip for overall back width. But I also use behind the neck pullups for the same purpose. And I do hammer grip chins for lat thickness

But if you are looking to minimize biceps involvement as much as possible, then pullups are what you need to be doing.
