Weight is a huge problem?!

Question: Weight is a huge problem?
I have a 14 year old cousin .
She is over weight and is tired of being made fun of.
Don't say she's too young she'll grow out of it and blah.
She's sick of people telling her that.
She needs help !
She has given herself 7 months to lose 30-40 pounds.
Y guys have no idea how much she weighs so dont say it's too much .
It's a reasonable amount of weight to lose for her to be considered ''normal''
She's in desperate need.
She an active girl.
Extra details, she has a pool , treadmill, etc.
But she's a little shy to go swimming cause alot of people live in her house.
But, I'll motivate her and even swim with her (:

Answers:

Childhood obesity is a very serious problem in this country. She won't grow out of it, in fact most obese children become obese adults. At 14 what she needs to do is exercise. Its more then being active, she needs to go get sweaty for at least an hour every day. I mean red in the face, out of breath, exercise. If she doesn't like swimming then get her a bike. The treadmill is fine, but don't be afraid of a good long hike or some aerobics on DVD.

Next is diet. She needs to eat lots of fresh fruit, veggies, lean meats, whole grains and raw nuts. NO pizza, NO junk food of any kind. But she should NOT starve herself either. She should eat plenty of the right kinds of food. Cut out the fatty dairy foods and replace with fat free milk and yogurt. No white bread or wheat bread, use whole grain bread instead. Whole grain pasta and brown rice are also very good.

EDIT BASED ON YOUR ADDITIONAL INFO: Please don't get so defensive, you mentioned nothing about her diet, you never gave her weight and you lied about her age. Then you get upset when the answers are not what you wanted???

But a 12 y/o who weighs 160 lbs IS obese unless she is 6 feet tall. That word may be offensive, but in reality, it doesn't take much to be classified as obese and it has nothing to do with what you look like. I know it paints a picture of severely overweight people barely able to walk but they would be classified as "morbidly obese". To be obese you only need a BMI of 30. She is much higher then this I assure you.

If she eats great and is active and still weighs 160 lbs, then you need to look at other physical conditions. I would consult a physician and explain that she has a healthy diet and active lifestyle and see if there are other medical causes.

I would also help her by introducing her to healthier eating habits, and possibly get a subscription to a magazine like Women's Health for ideas to help you help her, I know Men's Health has really helped put and keep me on the right track.

Going from a 38 inch waist to a 30 and keeping of since my junior year of high school in 2003.

swimming would be great for her, even just playing around in the pool would burn a lot of calories. if she could run on the treadmill for like a half hour every day, that would be great! help motivate her to eat more fruits and veggies, try to only drink water, and eat less junk food. good luck to her!

I know how she feels. I had the same problem. I say Get her in the pool and do 5 laps a day for a week then move it up to ten. Then start walking then jog then Run! cut out all Sugers. That will really help. Good luck!

Shame poor girl :-(, just keep on motivating her.

Swimming tends to be the best all-around exercise.
