Whey Protein Question..?!

Question: Whey Protein Question..?
People say you need about as much protein as you weigh. I am about 180lbs so I should be consuming 180g a day Im assuming. When I take my protein shake it says 1 scoop with 150 ml of milk or water. That 1 scoop is 30g. I know regular foods I eat count towards the 180g but is 30g to little for the shake? should I double it? It isn't even half a glass when I drink it..

BTW Im taking the Whey Protein Isolate stuff. I take it 3 times a week after I lift. Let me know ifI should take it more often please.

If you answer this question please keep it relevant to what I am asking. I couldn't care less about how much you lift or the different kinds of protein available. Answer MY questions!

Thanks :) [just trying to get a decent answer to this]

Answers:

Just as important as the quantity of protein consumed is how often you take that protein in. As another answer has stated, your body can only absorb a certain amount of protein within one sitting (1.5 hours). It takes time for you body to utilize the nutrients. If you put too much into your body at one time, you are wasting protein and taxing your kidneys as they are left to filter the protein. Taking in 180 grams in 2 meals will not do you nearly as much good as taking 180 grams in 8 meals.

With regards to your first question, 30 grams is about the max you should be taking in at one time. There has been research showing that body can only realistically absorb somewhere between 20-30 grams per sitting (every 1.5 hours). So if you add that extra scoop, it is literally doing nothing for you. The great thing about protein is how powerful it can be for your body, even if it just takes up half a glass.

If you are shooting for a gram per pound, I am assuming you are trying to bulk up or a very active athlete. In either case, be careful about taking in too much at any one sitting. If you really want to maximize the usage of protein, try and get in 20-30 grams about 6-8 times a day, spread out at each serving. So if you protein right when you wakeup, late morning, lunch, mid afternoon, an hour before workout, after workout, dinner, and (if you are bulking up), at night. You would hit your mark of grams per lb, but in a way that is much more beneficial to your body.

There is also research out there to support that you can accomplish the same type of bulk with much less protein if done at proper intervals and balanced with quality meals.

Hope this helps, just no need at all to do the 2nd scoop same serving, save yourself some money and do it at a different point in the day.

ceo, spartos.com, all-natural protein water

The body can only digest about 40g of protein per time, so add a little bit extra, but dont double it , cause if you take 60 g about 20 g of it just turns to urine .

people say alot of things.... and all inert proteins are going to do is turn into lipids.. NEXT!

eat some fresh fruits and vegetables.. (soluble proteins)

30 grams is enough. The human body can't absorb more than 40 grams at once. Take it twice a day, first thing in the morning and after you workout

yeah you can double it. it shouldn't be that much of a problem
