How can I gain weight in a healthy way?!

Question: How can I gain weight in a healthy way?
Hey everyone. I am 23 years old 5'4, 110 lbs, and I have always had a fast metabolism. I had a baby 15 months ago, and I was 125 lbs after I had her. Now gradually the weight has come off (unintentionally), and I am now 110 lbs again. I thought my weight was perfect at 120. I am a pretty healthy person. I don't eat a lot of junk or simple carbs. Is it possible to gain weight while eating healthy and doing light exercise? I like eating healthy, junk food makes me sluggish. And I HAVE to exercise to get my blood going bc I'm prone to depression, anxiety, and fatigue if I don't. Any answers are appreciated! :)

Hello!

You're right, of course, to avoid junk food.

Here are a few ideas, based on what you've said:

* Maybe you need more simple carbs with your meals so your food will properly sustain you rather than your body repeatedly resorting to stored fat to keep you going.

* An additional light meal, especially if it includes good stuff you might otherwise neglect: steamed vegetables, oily fish such as herring and sardines.

* A high-protein meal (poultry, fish, or whey protein drink) after an exercise session so that your body can use the protein to build a healthy, lovely shape.

* Healthy snacks between meals to supplement your calorie intake. Especially good would be really healthy stuff that you might otherwise neglect. Examples: fruit, maybe home-made fruit salad; varied nuts (keep away from the little one); beetroot; raw carrot.

For ideas on what food is good for what nutrient, and all that jazz, I recommend this book:

Increase your protein intake, eat more whole wheat breads and consume dairy products. You might also want to try lifting weights, to gain muscle.Remember, muscle weighs More than fat!
