How do I help my 14 year old sister lose weight?!

Question: How do I help my 14 year old sister lose weight?
At the doctors office, I saw when they were taking her weight and she is morbidly obese..I want to help her lose weight. I am a little overweight myself but I am not morbidly obese. I'm signing myself up for the gym, and I think I will take her with me. How many calories should a 14 year old take and how many calories should she burn at the gym? She's 209lbs, and is 5ft4 ..how should I help her?

Answers:

Maybe afterschool, you can have a bonding time by walking with her around the block a couple of times for at least 30 minutes a day. Maybe even keep her accountable and every time she reaches for junk food tell her something like you have such a gorgeous face and now lets work on getting that gorgeous body. Tell her that for every 10-15 pounds she loses (until she is healthy weight) buy her something (as long as it is not food-related) like hair accessories, clothes or take her to movies or bowling.

I'm on my weight loss journey.

Im not sure as to the proper calorie counts or anything, but she has to be motivated herself to want to lose the weight. Just taking her to the gym isnt going to cut it. Maybe you should do the gym and start substituting in some healthy snacks, im not saying completely cut out all the junk food , but they do make some pretty yummy healthy foods now a days. Also, you can always tell her gently (very gently) that you are concerned about her weight or you could comment that you would like to lose some weight and you need her help as a workout partner ( this way shell be getting exercise and wont realize that shes benefiting from it)

Well, running is a great way to lose weight, and becomes much easier when there is someone by your side running with you. It is important to remember that diet is extremely important as well as working out. Diet is NOT starving yourself, it is eating healthy food. For example, to burn off the calories in one M&M, you would have to walk 100 yards, or the length of one football field. Good luck to you and your sister. It isn't an easy journey and the results aren't instantaneous, but the benefits far outweigh the cost.

I'm no professional, but from my experience the best plan would be a diet and a workout program. If you by any chance have enough money, a wonderful idea would be to sign her up for some personal trainer courses because they will know what's best for her.
There are a lot of ideas for workout routines and diets at http://www.prevention.com/health/
just browse the sight and you can find what would work best for your sister.

Hi , I know how you feel. It is a challenge when we fight ourselves and attempt to lose weight. I found with so much information out there on the internet it can be very confusing. My friends and I have tried numerous diets with very limited success and this was both time-consuming and very frustrating. Until we came across The Diet Solution which gave us the motivation and a great system to follow. The success we have had has surpassed all the other programs we had tried in the past. See for yourself as I am sure it will bring you results.

Good luck

Drink plenty of water. Our body needs a lot of water so give in to water. Water is not just way to flush out toxin but if you have more water in your body you will generally feel healthier and fitter. This it self will discourage any tendency to gorge. The best thing about water is that is has no calories at all.

Many weight loss specialists will tell you that attitude has a more powerful effect on losing weight than all the other factors. They may be right. The best plan out there won't cut it, if you don't follow it, and that can be a matter of attitude

Just encourage her to eat healthy foods, and drink lots of water. Don't let her go on a major diet or stop eating, eat 3 meals a day, and exercise daily. Just encourage healthiness.

I think you should take her to the gym with you. Let her run on the treadmill for a mile a day and not so much junk food . Good Luck(:
