How do I tell my boyfriend to lose weight?!

Question: How do I tell my boyfriend to lose weight?
Hello, i have a boyfriend that's overweight. He's not obese, but he is sooo not fit, he is lazy, very flabby, have NO muscle(:D haha), and big.
I really like him, but i'm worried:(, he's not fit and can't do all the P.E. and athletic exercises and is ALWAYS last place. he's like 5'7 and 160-170 pounds. I also want to lose weight too i am 5'4 130-135 pounds. I was thinking about going to the gym together and eat healthily together. I don't know how to tell him to lose weight though. Will he get offended?
Please help! thank you

Answers:

I would be offended if I were him no matter what you said. His BMI is just a little into the overweight group and if he has a large frame (big wrists) or more than average muscle, his weight may be normal. Regardless, it's not your job to worry about his weight without some good reason.

Your weight is not particularly high either. However, if you're into fitness you might encourage him to join a gym with you and you can do couples workouts. Or, you can just start dieting and getting fit and set the example or invite him to join you in the program. Losing fat is more about education and eating right than it is about exercise.

Whatever you do and whatever you say it needs to be constructive in form. You may be more sensitive to fitness or the need for it than he is. And, of course, he'll need to know you love/like him in spite of his body composition no matter what. That's a given.

Good luck and good health!!

I wouldn't say the words 'lose weight' to him, it may really affect his self esteem.
I would go along the lines of 'getting fit, becoming healthier'
If you were going to say something about his weight and you were thinking of losing weight too, I would suggest you say something to him like 'I was thinking of trying to get more fit... would you like to join me' ... not those exact words but try to push that message.

hope this helps, good luck.

You can't tip toe with him, just tell him and encourage him to go on walks with you first. Once he begins to feel the benefit of feeling a little fitter he may be happy to join a gym
Good luck
