What is the best way to stay on a diet?!

Question: What is the best way to stay on a diet?
I swear I'm having a difficult time staying on a diet. I've completely given up soda, I wont go back to it, but I don't know what to substitute it with that will satisfy my taste buds the same. I drink water(but there's only so much I can drink until I'm bored of it) and I also drink Apple Juice...but it has a lot of sugar so really I'm not doing any better if I'm drinking it all day, every day. I eat salads, anything healthy you can think of, but it doesn't satisfy my want for chips, cheeseburgers...all that fattening food. I'm honestly having a fight within myself to keep with it and it's a struggle each day. Any help on how to stay with a diet and not return back down that road of bad eating habits? It just sucks.

Answers:

Make sure that you get enough dietary fats to control your fat cravings which might be your body’s way of telling you which nutrients are missing. A lot of people restricting their calorie intake forget that they still need high calorie fats (a tbsp. of olive oil is 120 calories).

Use olive oil which is rich in monounsaturated fats (oleic acid) which raise the good HDL cholesterol and lower the bad LDL cholesterol in the blood so it’s very good for the heart and your organs’ health. Use it in all your salads dressings. 1 tbsp. (for a woman) or 2 tbsp. (for a man) will give you daily great benefits.

You would need (for your organs including your brain, spinal cord, nerves, skin…) about 20% of your diet being good dietary fats like the good oils, fish, nuts, seeds, avocado, olives...Just adding a few olives in your salads and using olive oil based salad dressing (vinaigrette) will do you wonder. I love snacking on half an avocado with vinaigrette. It’s so good that I cannot resist eating the other half and then it becomes a meal as a whole avocado is 320 calories (on top of the olive oil) but it’s all good healthy fats. I feel like my body is a car that just got an oil change so I can run well (I only walk/jog) and I don’t have any fat cravings. Avocados keep ripping after picking so they’re sold light green, hard and unripe (once they get ripped and dark green, they would be too fragile for transport). After you buy them, you have to wait a week to 10 days until they get ripe enough, soft to the touch, to be eaten...bummer. No kidding but some people actually try to eat unripe avocados...hard!

You should not get more than 5% of the bad fat (partially hydrogenated fat and fats from animal origin) which you don’t need but still get from low fat dairies, lean meats and eggs.

It takes about 3 weeks for your taste buds to adjust...slowly to a slight difference. Like when I switched from whole milk to 1%, I first had to switch to 2%. I mixed up whole milk and 2% for 3 weeks, gradually decreasing the amount of the whole milk...then I got used to 2% for 3 weeks, then I mixed in 1% and gradually decreased the amount of the 2%. I even got used to 0.5% until my grocery store stopped selling it, so I had to get used again to the 1% (I could never get used to skim milk, it’s like white water for me). Now I’m drinking 1% milk and it tastes great but it took me 4 months of drinking weird tasting milk, switching from one to another while my taste buds were trying to adapt. Daily, If I drink 2 cups of 1% (210 calories) instead of 2 cups of whole milk (294 calories), that’s a 84 calories difference which is a yearly 30,660 calorie difference or 8 pounds and a quarter of fat reserves that I won’t have to lose at the end of the year.

You can have any of the bad stuff occasionally so they don’t become forbidden obsessions. Have some French fries, or one slice of pizza (with your favorite veggies) or a cookie, once in a while. Just don’t do it every day and watch out for portion sizes.

If you feel guilty about it, make your own homemade healthier French fries (chips...), pizzas and cookies, not using any of the junk they use in restaurants and processed food.

I make my own French fries with the good canola oil. I make them from fresh potatoes, never frozen/defrosted so they taste better and are healthy. There’s nothing bad about potatoes (as long as you burn the carbs), canola oil (as it is polyunsaturated fat) and a pinch of salt.

Do not have a “diet” diet, where you’re told what to eat, just eat healthy, have a simple healthy diet, so you can satisfy your cravings and you can answer your body’s need for some missing nutrients. Like if I’m building muscle mass, I’ll need a lot of carbs to do the weight training (because it’s anaerobic and fat burning shuts down) and then I’ll get huge cravings for eggs, nuts or a good juicy filet mignon (need for proteins for the “repairing stronger” part) otherwise, I would only eat eggs or meat like once a week.

Eating healthy is about avoiding the unhealthy food as much as possible. Once you stay away from fast food (any restaurant food, really), packaged and boxed food (except for bread, pasta and rice, if you don’t make your own bread/pasta), canned food, prepared and processed food, then you’re left with the fruits/veggies, whole wheat food (the brown kind of bread, pasta), brown rice, legumes (beans, peas, lentils...), lean meat, low fat dairies, eggs and the good kind of oil (olive, avocado, nuts, fish).

Also the cooking method can double the calorie content of a meal, so learn about healthy cooking without having to add extra fats, like using a steamer (using water), a rotisserie (using heat and herbs), a slow cooker (using homemade broth and herbs), a pressure cooker, a grill…

Put a lock on the fridge and give the key to someone you trust, Believe in yourself, Bet what you consider a lot of money if you don't loose this amount of weight by the end of the month. have a friend be in a diet with you and remind each other why you where on your diet. have a family member help you out. that's all i can think of.

PATIENCE and SELF-CONTROL.

Good luck!

I used to work with a physician who said "There is no such thing as a diet; there is only healthy eating"

It's not simply that chips and burgers are fattening - the high fat content is actually addictive. Try making your own burgers with low fat mince and grill rather than fry. Use low fat oven chips. look at the nutritional information and choose foods with less than 5 grams of fat per 100 grams of food.

Salads are OK, but can be really boring, and boredom is one of the biggest reasons for failure to lose weight.

The only "diet" which is scientifically proven to keep you healthy and make you lose weight is the csiro diet. Try it; it does work

Getting off soda is good. I gave them up a long time ago. You can try flavored water instead to take the edge off. You can also invest in a juicer and make your own drinks, and they are naturally sweet.
What helped me with my food cravings is to not deprive yourself. If I feel like chips I would eat a few, but not too many. Another trick I tried was to eat 5 times a day instead of hte standard 3.
I also tried this weight loss site and it really helped me, so maybe you can take a look at it:

Remember you're in charge
"Losing weight isn't about cheesecake," is what i say. "It's about feeling like you can control your body and your life." Many people use food as an "I deserve this" treat, but then feel worse later when they can't fit into their clothes. "Most people are used to feeling bad about themselves because they gained weight or didn't keep their goal," "But you don't have to feel bad anymore. You dictate what goes in your mouth. You have the power to change."
Don't feel like i'm having a go at you, i used be on diets all the time untill i took control and didn't even look at fatty/sugary foods. that way i can't be tempted! :D

Get good support
We all have those "bad influence" friends who tell us we look fine just as we are, then coax us into splitting a dessert that we didn't even want! It's imperative, to surround yourself with people who respect your goal. Support groups like Overeaters Anonymous and Weight Watchers are great places to turn, because they give you a loudspeaker to voice all your thoughts and frustrations.

I also suggests getting a diet buddy. "They'll help balance you out and help keep you in line," Set a goal

"Once you have a set goal,it's easier to create a plan and strategy to achieve that goal." So, if you want to lose 10 pounds, you can base your meals around that goal accordingly. "And be specific with your goal," "Come up with a number that makes you feel great and confident." i recommend visualizing yourself at this ideal weight in detail: what it feels like, the clothes you'll get to wear. "It's great incentive when you can see how great you'll look."

Start small
Want to increase you fruit and veggie intake and cut out all junk food? Don't try to go cold turkey. "Set a few new rules each week,. "Create a list of 'No's.'" For the first week, for example, you might limit bread and desserts to no more than twice a week. For the next week you might eliminate them completely and add in more fruits and vegetables. Throughout, keep a list of what you are eating. This will make you more mindful about your choices and help you spot potential problem areas.
Get over your excuses
"If you knew you'd get $50,000 for sticking to your diet for one day, wouldn't you do it?" . With the exception of those who have medical conditions, most people could stick to their diets with a little planning and perseverance. So, if you know you have a big work dinner, try to get the menu ahead so you'll know your healthy options, and be resolved to pass on wine when everyone else having a grand old time. Staying the course now, is going to help you feel great later.

Make yourself accountable
So you slipped and ate half a box of cookies. What now? "When you break a promise, confess it to someone else, "it keeps you honest." By verbalizing it you make it real, and harder to sweep under the rug. I also suggest creating fun but annoying consequences for your behavior, like washing dishes even if you have a dishwasher or hitting the gym twice in one day. Makes that cookie seem a little less desirable, doesn't it?

No feeling bad
"If you have fallen off track, don't waste time feeling bad about it, "It's just a diversion to keep you unmotivated and off target." Feeling guilty can make you depressed, which can then make you crave comfort, and that's where the Chunky Monkey ice cream comes in. Instead, acknowledge you went astray, then get back on the wagon. This is much more empowering and much less dramatic.

Know it's not about dieting, but about keeping promises to yourself
"Making promises to yourself and keeping them is the foundation for having what you want in every area of your life," "Improving your health energizes your confidence and understanding that you can do well for yourself. Once that is in motion, it carries over to the other areas of your life." And that self-confidence is worth all the Krispy Kremes in the world.

hope this helps :D this is what i used so i hope it helps you as much as it helped me :D
