Have I gained weight or muscle?!

Question: Have I gained weight or muscle?
Three-four weeks ago I started taking dance at school every day for an hour and a half.
I am 5'3'' and I was 111 lbs when I started. Then I got measured again last week and the scale said I was 114 lbs.
What could make me gain three pounds? My daily caloric intake is about 1400 and I eat quite healthy every day except for some splurges here and there. Then I exercise five days a week.

Could the three lbs be muscle? I know I'm one of those self-conscious teenagers. What else is knew. Thank you for your answers!

Answers:

Your calories are too low to gain muscle, and too low to gain fat. The weight you see on the scale is most likely from water weight or hormonal changes. Two weeks before my period, the scale will say I've gained 5 pounds, but as soon as I get my period, it will go back to normal.

Give it a few days and I'll bet the scale will say 111 again. If you just started a new sport (dance) it's very common for the body to retain water when you put new stress on it. It will go away soon.

both. lol. muscle is dense. if you gain muscle, you gain weight. FAT on the other hand is a completely different matter.
