Confirmation needed: almonds have a ton of calories?!

Question: Confirmation needed: almonds have a ton of calories?
I have to do a dine analysis for my fitness class and when I entered 1/2 cup of almonds (salted unblanched) into the dine analysis program it said this counted as 450 calories. It is the salt that makes the calories so high or something else?....cause I'm kind of shocked by this.

Answers:

No it's not the salt it's the fat. They naturally have lots of fat in them and they have high calories as a result. However, they are still very healthy to eat because they are "good fats" i.e. unsaturated fats. As long as you don't eat too many, they are good. It's all about portion control!

no, nuts have a lot of oil and fat in them, the salt does add a little of too that though, but it's mainly the oil and fat stuff. That's also why peanut butter has a lot of calories in it too. Nuts are very healthy for you, if consumed in healthy portions, but yes, they do have a lot of calories. I try to stay away from them, but sometimes i gotta have a little peanut butter :)

There's alot of fat in almods, so the calories are kind of ridiculous, but it's from healthy fats that actually help you stay thin, so don't worry about it too much. There's an article about nuts and how people actually lost weight eating them on diet-blog.com, they just posted it a few days ago I think so it should be easy to find.

Almonds are high in calories but are still a great healthy food. Why? Because they are full of Vitamin E, magnesium, and B6, to name a few.

There is no need to eat 1/2 cup of almonds. That is a lot! Eat a small handful for about 100 calories for a great, healthy snack.

Its the fat inside of it. But its good fat and it actually takes fat to burn fat. This is the kind of fat that you want to burn fat. It also has A LOT of nutrients in them. It is recommended that everyone should have a handful a day.

Almonds do have a high caloric value, but nearly all of those are pure energy. They're good for you, don't sweat it.
