Question: What does yoga do for you? do you lose weight from it?
Answers:

Hardly. I have been in the Fitness and health industry many years.
I may not win a few hearts here from Yoga lovers but having done a lot of research in fitness for function versus dysfunction, Yoga does have some concerns. Yoga has been around a long long long time - much longer than most fitness devices and programs that most people know about. The problem is, few have scientifically or critically analysed Yoga over the years. Thinking fitness experts don't often like to speak up about Yoga because it has been around so long or because it is so popular.
75% or more of it is okay based on my research and practical experience, including some strength and mind/ body exercises. I have found though, that there are some exercises that push the human body to rather extreme discomfort and abnormal positions under the assumption that you are a circus contortionist like the instructor. Often Yoga instructors have flexible ligaments which allow them to get in some strange positions, which the majority of the population can't perform due to restricted ligament flexibility.
The majority of the population need other forms of fitness before Yoga - my opinion.
