Does fat turn into muscle? Or does muscle just add to fat?!

Question: Does fat turn into muscle? Or does muscle just add to fat?
I want to start gaining some strength, like weights and stuff but I've heard that when you gain muscle (for girls) it just goes on top of fat and just makes your arms and legs bigger. Is that a rumour?

Answers:

Completely wrong.

Muscle and fat are two completely different cells made of different molecules with different purposes.

Muscle - made from protein and contracts to cause movement and hold body structures together.

Adipose tissue (fat) - made from fat. Simply used as energy storage for the body. Sits ON TOP OF MUSCLE!

I'm a personal trainer and ALL of my female clients freak out about this at first. What people are experiencing is that they are building muscle but not eating properly so they don't lose fat - the bigger muscle under the fat simply pushes the fat outward.

Adding muscle actually helps you lose fat because your body needs to burn the fat for fuel.

Neither one of the two things can "turn into" another.
Work out and build a bit of lean muscle to tone (YOU WILL NOT LOOK LIKE A MAN - I PROMISE lol) and eat a healthy diet so you burn off the fat and you're good!

Good luck!

No, that is a myth, fat doesn't just magically turn into muscle! But they also won't make you look bigger. In fact, building muscles will make you look leaner and stronger. Though, in the beginning, it may look like your body is bulking up, cause your muscles will retain some water and make you appear bigger. This affect can last for a month if you're unlucky like me or when you are lucky only a couple of days. Have fun training and good luck! : )

Your muscle is always under your fat whether you exercise or not. If you don't do anything to burn the fat yes you'll just have muscle under fat which makes you bigger. If you have a good diet with some cardio to speed up the fat burning process you would become smaller

Probably the best thing you can do is eat a meal of complex carbohydrates 2-4 hours before exercising/working out and a small snack right before. Then do some cardiovascular exercises to burn the fat and then work out to build muscle.

When you work out the fat burns and then the muscle strengthens so you don't need to worry until you stop working out, then the muscle will turn into fat hope this helped :)
