Answers:

Energy drinks like Monster aren't good for you if you are on a diet or not. Once in a blue moon they can be okay but they are full of sugar and caffeine which is not good for you. Side effects that have been reported for these drinks are nausea, vomiting and irregular heartbeats. I would say you should stop drinking these and start drinking a lot of water because it helps you lose weight and flushes out all your bad toxins. All-natural fruit or vegetable smoothies are also very beneficial and nutritional. Diet Coke is not good for you either because it contains aspartame which is a fake sugar.

You need to give more information for people to answer this question sorry.

Neither. Drink coffee. Far more healthy but same amount of caffeine (more, even)

I bought a Red Bull a while ago, out of curiosity, just to know what it tastes like.
The can will expire on 04/01/11...I need to make up my mind.
Each time I’m about to taste it, I read the ingredients and chicken out.

You sound pretty messed up as far as your diet goes. Drinking diet shakes, boring boiled eggs, energy drinks and considering fake sugars...

If you eat/drink something sweet, your taste buds will send the message to your brain (they have bike messengers…haha). Then your brain will think that you’re getting more sugar so you will get an insulin response and the actual sugar that you have in your blood will be sent to your fat cells and muscles (that’s one way to get fat), since you’re supposed to get more sugar…BUT THEN…oops, you did not really get sugar!!! So now, your body is confused…sweet taste = sugar but then (manmade fake sugar) sweet taste ≠ sugar so the laws of the universe have to be rewritten (to include humans stupid ability to come up with something sweet that has no sugar) and in the meantime, your body goes wacko in a state of emergency with low blood sugar levels, Mommy! Mommy! Now, all your body wants is for you to replenish your sugar level in your blood which are very important and to make you do that, your body (using your brain, that thing in your skull) makes you very hungry because it wants you to eat to get more sugar (which is why people eating diet food are more likely to binge).

So…sweet food with real sugar would just give you more energy, while sweet food with fake sugar will just make you weak (low blood sugar level) and hungrier (need to replenish the blood sugar), so you’ll eat more and gain weight or, in your particular case, use willpower to not eat more but be hungry so you might connect with starving people around the world, who have no food. Don’t tell them that you have access to good food, but that you’re drinking zero calorie junk, and that makes you hungry, and that your body wants you to eat…but that you are using your willpower to not eat. You could become their Messiah…starving by choice instead of circumstances.

They are a lot of experiments with rats and the ones given fake sugar ate more and got fatter.
It is a proven fact, among humans, that fake sugar, like in diet sodas, leads to obesity.

Edit:

Onlymatch4u had a good answer but he lost me when he said to limit your carbs to 75 grams per day (come on, I eat like a little bird, as I’m a little old thin lady with a 1,200 calories BMR but still need 180 grams of carbs...720 calories, 60% of my diet!) and he also said to eat more cheap saturated oils like coconut and palm oil (the plague of the fast food industry and processed food industry) and avoiding the good polyunsaturated fat like canola oil (that I use to make healthy French fries). Coconut and palm oil are 10% good and people buying them cheap and selling them high are focusing on those 10%, hiding a bad forest behind a good tree.

The best oil is olive oil (it’s rich in monounsaturated oleic acid which raises the good HDL cholesterol and lowers the bad LDL cholesterol in the blood so it’s very good for the heart and your organs’ health) and peanuts oil (unless you’re allergic to peanuts). Olive oil is very healthy. Use it in all your salads dressings. 1 tbsp. (for a woman) or 2 tbsp. (for a man) will give you daily great benefits.
Avoid the 100% pure olive oil which is the lowest quality because it’s not “virgin”. I use “extra virgin” for my salads and marinades. If you’ll reach a temperature above 375F, you have to use extra light olive oil, which was refined and can withstand higher cooking temperatures but has less flavor (don’t use extra light olive oil in your vinaigrette).
I use canola oil for frying and olive oil for other cooking methods and for salad dressings.

Note: Crisco ads say that they have extra virgin olive oil for dressings and sauces, pure olive oil for grilling/sautéing and marinades and light olive oil for roasting, baking and frying.

Diet drinks are the worst things you can put into your body and especially if you want to lose weight. Diet drinks are not for people on diets. The word "Diets" in that garbage is to entice you to buy it so you THINK it will help you to not gain weight, but in fact, they make your appetite increase. Energy drinks cause insulin / glucagon spikes that drive your blood sugar levels into frenzies. By increasing the insulin production to high levels, it causes your pancreas to secrete glucagon telling your liver to store the sugars. This drives the blood sugar down and forces the body to believe it is being greatly stressed. This causes the "Flight or fright" response that causes the adrenal glands to fire and produce cortisol to put energy to the muscles. This exhausts your adrenal glands and uses up the hormone precursors to all your steroid hormones. The energy you feel is "MAKE BELIEVE" and will cause your body to believe it is starving. This creates a massive problem for losing weight because now your thyroid slows down making T3 and T4 hormones and your metabolism slows down as a result. So now, you plateau, don't burn the calories, but store the glucose in the form of glycogen, cause your liver to reprioritize and you are in a real mess.

To lose weight, you need to disregard the Food Industry's "Hired guns" that are promoting this lunacy to eat more carbs and less fat. FAT gives you sustained energy and carbs quick fleeting energy, so you get hungry often. Your body is designed to eat lots of fats and when you eat low fat garbage, diet this and that, you are going totally against what your body was designed to do and that not only makes it very difficult to lose weight, but you plateau and are hungry all the time unless you do that ridiculous thing of eating 5 or 6 meals per day. Do you actually think primitive man was designed to eat 5 or 6 times per day? People promoting that either are IGNORANT of nutrition or have a PROFIT agenda.

Limit your carbs to about 75 grams per day and eat more good fats like coconut oil, olive oil, palm oil, walnut oil, etc. AVOID all soy based products including soybean oils, canola, cottonseed, and corn oils. These are very unstable oils that damage the body on many levels. AVOID ALL SOY PRODUCTS because they contain lots of goitrogens that slow your metabolism down.

Artificial sweeteners are very TOXIC to the body and most are now genetically modified JUNK. Anything genetically modified are very toxic to the body and will make you resistant to antibiotics and your body has to get rid of it as toxins and really tax your organs. There is NOTHING good about genetically modified anything. Europe and Asia have rejected that garbage because they have actually tested it and are required to label it, but NOT in America. The same companies selling this junk in America are NOT selling it in Europe and Asia because they know how it is damaging people. NO TESTING is done in America because the ex-vice president of Monsanto Michael Taylor is the FOOD CZAR at the FDA that approves foods as SAFE or not. Taylor was also the attorney for Monsanto who makes most of the GMO foods. These are NOT nice people and Americans are getting very sick with all kinds of new diseases, allergies, and cancers as a result of this junk being put into our food supply. Aspartame is genetically engineered. High fructose corn syrup is GMO. AVOID IT ALL LIKE IT WAS DEATH IN A JAR.

EDIT: "Betty B" Please read my e-mail to you on Canola and why no one should put that junk into their bodies. Canola you buy in stores is genetically modified to make Laurate canola. They hydrogenate this oil to keep it from going rancid so fast, but even at room temperature this oil turns to trans fats very fast. They put deodorizers in it to mask the stench. ALL polyunsaturated oils extracted from nuts and seeds are highly oxidized (rancid) when you buy them. Multi double bonds in these oils make them very unstable. Pour a little of these oils on a table top and feel it with your finger; it's oily and smooth, then come back in about 1/2 hour to 1 hour and feel it; it will be sticky. That's the oil oxidizing! NOT something you want to put into your body. Coconut oil on the other hand is 92% saturated and very, very stable. It can NEVER become a trans fat like Canola does. The saturated fats in coconut oil are extremely good for you. People in countries where coconut oil is used extensively live long lives and have low heart problems. Macau, China has the longest life expectancies in the world at 84.4 years. They use a lot of coconut and tropical oils. Don't fall into the very stupid indoctrination the food industry keeps handing out supported by medical people who have no clue about how nutrition works in the body or have a PROFIT agenda.

good luck to you

I don't think it's a good idea on the long run, especially if you are talking about Monster drinks. They have so much caffeine and will make you jittery. Try balancing your diet with more vegetables and fruits instead of just drinking protein shakes and eating boiled eggs. Take your shakes as a breakfast and a dinner, but for a small snack eat an apple or vegetables and for lunch try having something hearty like lean meats and lots of vegetables. And DON"T drink diet coke at all, diet coke has this thing called ASPARTAME and this is bad for your bones. It takes away or stops the consumption of Vitamin D. If you want more energy always have breakfast and have a snack after like some nuts, this helps give natural and good energy with out the jitters. Good luck!

There is a bit of literature lately that caffeine actually stimulates appetite. The South Beach Diet guy says so, anyway.

There has also been some discussion of artificial sweeteners stimulating appetite as well. Apparently the group of lab rats that were fed artificial sweetener gained more weight than did the rats fed real sugar. There was a lot of speculation as to why but no conclusion other than artificial sweeteners may not be much of a solution.

There has also been some articles published about diet coke, and it was noted that people who drank diet coke on a regular basis are heavier than those who don't. It may only be that overweight people try to refrain from using sugar, but from the rat experiments, it may be that diet coke stimulates appetite.

Try this: drink water. Period. And don't use sweeteners or sugar at all for a week or two, and see if the cravings for it subside.
