Do you burn more fat running one minute then walking for one minute?!

Question: Do you burn more fat running one minute then walking for one minute?
Alternating each minute for around 15-30min?
Does it burn more calories doing this than just walking non-stop or running non-stop without alternating?
Thanks x

Answers:

Running or sprinting quickly goes after your glycogen stores (sugars/carbs) because the body can't burn fat fast enough to give you the energy, whereas walking is a slower pace in which the body has a chance to attack fat.
Everybody burns calories at different rates depending on metabolism and level of fitness, so it's best to alternate between walking and running so you are sure to be reaching both the fat-burning and cardio zones. Walk-run-walk-run is your best bet.

if your alternating runs are at the same pace as ur constent run then no.

however if you run for 15-30min at a stedy pace (%70 max heart rate) in one session then you wont burn as many calories than if you did high intensity interval training, such as sprinting at over %90 max heart rate for 30secs to one minute and then walking for 30secs to recover. Plus you will have the added benefit of muscle damage from the increase resistance of sprinting which will also boost your metabolism throughout the next day.

burning fat is just using up more calories than you take in
you burn calories by moving a set distance or lifting or moving a set weight
it is not therefore based apon how long you do it for but the amount of movement that you do
this means that if you run for half an hour you will likely burn twice as many calories as you would have if you walked for half an hour because you would have gone a shorter distance.
that being said there are some studies that have shown that the fastest method of weight loss is alternating
as far as i remember the best numbers to use are 8 seconds of sprint as hard as you can then 12 seconds of slow jog. this will work you anaerobically which is better for your heart and burns more calories, also you gain more muscle mass for more body toning in this method.
if you want to try and improve your anaerobic fitness you should sprint for as long as possible to get your heart rate at about 80-90% of it's maximum rate and them break for the same amount of time at 60-80% max rate. this will burn fat at a high rate as well as improve your running ability.

Like Dave said, losing weight requires you to burn more calories per week/day than you take in. So anyone who tells you they can't lose weight no matter how hard they try are either lying or not doing it the proper way. Anyone can lose weight and be in shape, even people with bad genetics. All it takes is hard-work and determination.

It's called HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) and you would want to be walking then jogging then sprinting to get the most from this. It's not so much about calories burned as the training effect it generates.

Alternating one burns more calories I think, but it definitely lowers the chances of injury
