Ive tried everything, the weight doesnt come off?!

Question: Ive tried everything, the weight doesnt come off?
i am 5'7 and just under 190lbs and i realize i am overweight. I work out 6 times a week for a long time, mostly rowing/ rowing machine (not easy!) I stopped taking antidepressants about a month ago (which i learned caused me to gain 35 lbs in a year). now that i am off the meds, the weight still isnt coming off. I particapate in crew and burn A LOT of calories doing that (its not a sport that you wanna be even a pound overweight for). i eat about 1200 calories a day. ive been tested for thyroid problems, nothing came up as wrong.
do you have any tips for me? i AM a healthy eater, which may come off a surprising by how much i weigh. thanks for the help :)

Answers:

Simple. You're not eating enough. You've tried everything except what actually works-- checking your math. Yes, you lose weight when you burn more calories than you eat.... BUT that's assuming that you eat at least enough to keep your metabolism in a fat-burning mode. And a fat-burning metabolism still requires a certain minimum of daily calories

I know this because I was (unintentionally) eating 1000 calories a day or something similar to that for at least the past few years. In the middle of last September, I weighed 189 on the day when I finally went to http://www.dailyplate.com as part of a serious effort to finally get healthier. It's a free calorie calculator/counter. (There are others available on the web. Just Google some and then pick your favorite.) I quickly realized I was under-eating. Not enough to cause anorexic weight loss. Instead, it was just enough to put my body into "famine mode," where it stores fat more easily and burns it more reluctantly. It's a survival mechanism designed to keep your body from wasting away on less-than-optimum food intakes.

I was surprised, since I never ignored feelings of hunger and was not under-eating on purpose by any means. I had just never paid much attention to calories, ate small snacks throughout the day that never amounted to any meals, and had never added up my daily totals before. I figured that since I was eating every few hours all day, that I was doing okay. But eating six times a day is useless if you're only eating 100 calories or so each time. Not enough.

I was under-eating by something around 1600 calories just to MAINTAIN what my current weight was. To start losing weight, I only had to increase my calories by about 600. The 600 was to raise my metabolism, and the other 1000 calories daily could then come from burned fat.

Even counting the long plateau I had throughout November and December (holidays = busier, more stress, and more bad food options around), I've now lost 27 pounds and 3 sizes and still dropping.

At least check out the website I gave you above. You enter your age, gender, height, weight, activity level, and your weight intentions (gain, maintain, or lose). It will then tell you how many calories you should be eating. If you exercise that intensely I absolutely GUARANTEE that you are way under-eating. 1200 calories would still be considered under-eating even for me, and I'm now smaller than you and have a relatively light workout regimen compared to yours (run 2 miles 3x a week, and lift weights for an hour 2x a week).

Personal experience and reading books and research studies about nutrition and fitness.

You probably gained weight because you have low metabolism.

Swimming, basketball, dancing and jogging is the best for burning calories! if you consider another workout, then make sure it is HIGH intensity . What does that mean? it means that you're really tired and your heart is racing fast and sweat is pouring out of your head.

Also, it depends on what you eat! DO NOT eat when you're not hungry!! (except for fruits)

I understand where you are. I have been there before. The thing that helped me was going on a low-carb diet. which is eating almost no carbs for a couple weeks and gradually reintroducing them back into your diet.

Hope I helped---

Umm... You might be an Endomorph, for that look at your diet.

i hope my site can help. feel free to explore.

I think you sound fine. If i were you it could just be muscle and you could try running or jogging every to every other day. My dad wieghs like 200 and he doesn't look fat at all but than again its all muscle. its really hard to give a good answer because noone knows what you look like. i just try to ask random people you don't know and ask them if they think your fat. (Than again you might not want to but thats honestly what i would do. I like talking to lots of people even on stupid topics) :)
