Do pushups help you lose weight (p.s. is this an ideal exercise routine?)?!


Question: Do pushups help you lose weight (p.s. is this an ideal exercise routine?)?
Every day I do pushups (let's say three sets of ten, 30 in total), about 20 situps, walk/jog for about 10-15 minutes, and soon I will be going to the gym for 30 minutes a day.

Is this ideal and should I add on any more for this to be effective in losing weight? Do pushups help you lose weight?

Answers:

There are two types of exercise: aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic is what helps you lose weight, because you are constantly moving. Some of those exercises are walking/ jogging/ running and those are the ones that help you lose weight. On the other hand, anaerobic exercises are usually less physically demanding. When you first start doing them, you lose weight because you are losing fat, but once you've done them for long enough, you will gain muscle, and therefore become heavier.

So, to be more effective I would say to run more than the 10-15 minutes. Also, make sure to eat healthy and drink plenty of water.

Pushups at first help you lose weight, but once you start gaining muscle mass, they don't.



Push ups will make your muscles firm up and get stronger.
For weight loss you need an activity that empties your blood sugar reserves so that the body needs to use body fat as fuel.
This normally takes about an hour of activity before it starts.
So keep up your routine and don't give in for the sugar urge :)

Only as part of a calorie controlled diet, and it doesn't use as much calorie as a straight forward cardio exercise like jogging.

It will definitely help with weight loss, but you will lose most of the weight from your running/jogging. Cardio is great for weight loss! :)

And yeah push ups can help you to lose weight, but the best thing to lose weight is cardio



That exercise is good (any will help). A good diet is important too.
