Dieting... but can I indulge every now and then?!

Question: Dieting... but can I indulge every now and then?
i am on a strict diet of lean meat, veggies, and some fruits with minimal carbs. I've been going strong for a week almost and haven't had any major problems. I am no stranger to dieting as I've done it most of my life. With that said, I hate the idea of not ever getting to enjoy some of the foods I love most. That's usually the reason I break a diet. I think I would be better off and could make healthy eating more of a lifestyle than a diet by rewarding myself with one of my favorite meals as a result of hard-work and eating healthy. Is that okay? How often? Once a month, once every two weeks, once a year? And could I possibly eat just one of my favorite meals, like chicken tenders and fries? And will it ruin any work I've already done? Will it set me back?

Please, what should I do???

Thanks so much~!

Because of the diet you are on you are trying to burn fat. If you give your body a carb treat it will cease to burn fat for a while and also the treat will give you cravings - I know, I've done that. Only you know how well you can control those cravings. I allow myself wine on Saturdays so that's once a week, and once a week a TINY 'bad' thing - yesterday I begged 3 chips off a friend's plate and that's it for this week.
Only you know, only you. Some people can't stop once they start and sweet things WILL give you cravings

Well, i'm dieting too and I indulge once a week. And for me it works perfect, its like a gift to myself for all the effort with the workouts and the diet I've done during the whole week.

Studies show that persons who let themselves have a treat now and then, within reason, are more successful dieters than those who cannot break severely restrictive "rules" and feel significantly deprived.

I'm a doctor.

it depends how often you indulge if too often the diet will not be worth it

We dieters can all learn a little from eachother. And you may never know who or when it will come to you. I had and still have the same problem as you. There are just certain foods I refuse to give up forever. So what I did, is what you might expect. Lets take spaghetti and meat balls. I will only allow myself to eat it once every two weeks, and when I do eat it, I will not allow myself to binge. I eat a normal portion and it tastes so good. I will leave a link for you from a man's website that helped me out tremendously. He chronicles his weight loss and has many ideas that may prove helpful. I incorporated his ideas about exercise into your daily routine and it is the best thing I have ever done. I started at 320 lbs and I now weigh 215 lbs. Good Luck I hope this has something that will help you

It's much better to make a permanent life style change instead of continuously dieting. You can't diet forever but you can learn how to make healthy eating part of your life. You can really eat anything in moderation as long as you make it work with whatever else you're eating that day. You can make anything healthy. If you actually make the meals yourself it'll be so much better for you than if you go it from fast food. You can make your own fries and bake them and they're still crispy without all the grease. You can always cut up chicken breasts, season it and bake that as well as it's just as good or even better than restaurant strips
