I think my sister is an anorexic ?!

Question: I think my sister is an anorexic ?
My sister was Anorexic at 14 because of my Dad, My mum and her went to a meeting for people with eating disorders and they have got better. Now my sister is 22 and she has a two year old, also she is having another baby girl in may :) But every year she gets thinner and claims its her average weight. I think she might be a functioning anorexic. She also is allergic to glutton and says thats why she is so thin.

Am i just being silly and you are thin with that allergy, or go and talk to my sister and my mum.
thank you for you replies. :)

Answers:

That's a difficult area. My daughter is in her teen years and suffered from anorexia. It's hard to get the anorexic to admit they have an eating disorder, because there's a ton of shame & guilt. My wife managed to get through to her, and presently she's doing well.

The most important method, I feel, of getting through is compassionate communication without judgement. Then offering other examples, without lecturing or finding a professional who's skilled in this area to help her.

& you're not being silly. If you didn't have concerns, then there'd be a problem. You love your sister, and its natural you'd be concerned for her health. That's what families are about, caring for each other.

Good luck!

It certainly sounds like your sister has an eating issue. If you think she is too thin, she probably is. If your mother is supportive, and you indicate she is, she may have noticed too. I would speak to her and say you are worried. If she really is poorly again, it will not only impact on her, but on her child and especially on her unborn baby.
