I lost a lot of weight but I still have lingering chest fat, what should I do?!

Question: I lost a lot of weight but I still have lingering chest fat, what should I do?
I'm 20 years old, male, 5'8". I weighed 180 in late August. Now I weigh 148 thanks to my rigorous 1250 calorie a day diet. I still have a bit of a gut, though. How do I flatten my stomach? What exercises and foods? I went back to 1250 calories a day.

Also, I don't want a six pack, just a flat stomach, so please don't give me directions on how to get one. A little toned is alright, but the ripped look just isn't for me.

First of all, congratulations on your recent weight loss. Did a doctor advise a 1250 calorie/day diet?

In regard to your toning and flat stomach, the first thing I would consider is what exercises you have used to accompany your diet. If you already have been doing exercise, your metabolism may have adjusted to counteract your low calorie intake.

I think a good way to "shock" your metabolism and spark a calorie burn up to 36hrs is Burst training.

The goal of Burst training is to maximize your workout benefit in a shorter period of time. (a)Choose an activity, whether it be a circuit of weighlifting exercises, burpees, 40yd sprints, etc. (b)Time yourself in a VERY disciplined manner. (c) Perform that exercise as hard as you can, or 80%-90% of your heartrate for 30-60 seconds and take ONLY enough time to get your breath back (2-3 minutes). (d) Repeat this 3-5 more times. (e) Do this every other day.

Studies have shown that burst training pushes your body to it's maximum, causing it to maintain a certain state that releases growth hormone and burns fat for the next 36hrs-48hrs.

In regard to your abs, I would recommend Side Bridges and Superman Planks. They are better on your back, and don't translate a lot of your effort in to wasted energy like crunches, etc.

Good Luck!

The reason you're loaded with fat is because of your diet. Your 1250 calorie diet meant much of your weight loss was due to your body eating its own muscle, not your body processing and utilizing fat. When you're in a calorie deficit, like you are now, your body first sacrifices its muscle because muscle takes about 3.5 times the calories to maintain than fat.

Your solution is to hit the weights (or the pavement...depending on your goals) and eat to sustain your workouts...which 1250 calories cannot do.

Get you bodyfat tested. If you still have a gut, then you bodyfat levels are obviously still high.

To get a flat stomach, you simply have to lower your bodyfat. Personally I don't think 1250 calories per day is a wise decision and tells me that you're not pushing yourself to the limit at the gym (are you even going?). Reason being is that you need more fuel than 1250 to get through rigorous workouts.

I doubt you'll change you routine b/c you've lost weight, which is great, but you're probably plateauing.

I would up the cardiio 3-4 times per week and up the intensity. Also implement some free weight training if not already. Fat is stubborn so it will take time. You also didn't mention what types of foods you're eating so can't help you in that dept.

I was going to contribute, but dang, James hit the nail on the head. Exercise is important-even when not trying to lose weight. And he is also right that you just need to get your overall body fat down in order to get a flat stomach. Despite what people think, you can't target-lose-weight. The last fat you put on is the first to come off. Best of luck, and listen to James. :)

you lost muscle weight not fat.go on weight training.+450 cal cardio with a healthy diet.(ask to gym trainer).this surely will remove it.

You can just do simple sit ups. People say that they're bd for your back but I did 200 a day for years and never had the least bit of trouble. If you don't want a six-pack, you can do about 100 a day for 4-5 weeks and it should take care of the problem. Your calorie intake is at a healthy level for someone your height but you also have to remember that there are different kinds of calories. You can take in as little as 1000 a day but if they're calories from fat then you're not really doing yourself a whole lot of good. Having a good protein intake can also help burn fat. You're on the right track. Just keep it up and make a few very minor changes and you should be fine.
