Help! How do I stop my out of control sugar cravings?!

Question: Help! How do I stop my out of control sugar cravings?
I have absolutely horrible out of control sugar cravings; specifically chocolate, cookies, ice cream and cake! I brought a box of coconut cookies on Monday; today is Wednesday and all the cookies are completely gone! That box should have lasted me until the weekend.

To avoid eating so much refined sugar, I'll stop at the bakery and purchase "a slice" of cake (vanilla fudge) for about $2.29 That "usually" stops my sugar cravings; usually but not here lately! ( o _ 0 ) When Easter rolls around I'm going to be in trouble! Jelly beans and chocolate bunnies galore; especially when they go on sale! ( ^ _ ^ )

You are on the right track: go to the bakery and buy one thing. The better quality you get and the more you spend on it, the less likely you are to repeat that action immediately. Find something that is SMALL, like a mini chocolate chip cannoli or a fancy little fruit tart.

Do NOT buy entire boxes or bags of candy. Go to a confectioner's and buy one piece of expensive chocolate.

Buy lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and cut up the vegetables and wash the fruit so that it is ready and waiting for you when you feel like snacking. This is a great treat I have been eating lately:

Low-fat Greek yogurt, vanilla flavored
1/2 cup frozen blueberries

If you mix this together and stir, the frozen blueberries will freeze the yogurt so you have blueberry frozen yogurt.

Bananas are also good if you are hungry for something sweet and satisfying. Also a couple of big, fat Medjool dates. They are full of sugar, but a little goes a long way, and they also have fiber and nutritional benefits.

You are just going to have to stay out of the Easter candy aisles.

Just remember: when you are hungry, eat something. Preferably, eat something that is good for you. I think you could go to the bakery OR the candy store every other day. And only once per day. Try not to make it the high point of your day, and skip a couple of days whenever you can.

ok i know this is going to sound like compleltely un true, the extra dessert delights gum ABSOLUTLELY helps. Not kidding i used to be insane with sugar, and that stuff really helps stop cravings. I love the mint chocolate chip gum, it tastes so good you dont wanna throw it out and it lasts forever to help stop cravings :) hope i helped lol and atleast give it a shot

Apparently smelling vanilla essence tricks your body into thinking you've already had something sweet to eat. I haven't tried it so I don't know how well it works but you could give it a go. Also you could try drinking tea thats meant to be a good appetite suppressant. Particularly green tea which also has other health benefits as well including speeding up your metabolism! :D
Maybe you could carry sweet foods that aren't bad for you round with you so that you can eat those instead when you get cravings. Maybe a sweet fruit you enjoy ( I always use grapes) or perhaps sugar free jelly's that's a pretty good alternative (although you'd have to check the ingredients).

If you find you just can't resist the real things maybe try and find lower sugar or fat versions. Or buy a smaller size. For example with the cookies just buy one cookie on its own or the equivalent that way you can still enjoy odd treats but won't completely over indulge!
Good luck! x
