How many calories should I be eating?!


Question: How many calories should I be eating?
I was anorexic and I am trying to gain weight... I am 86 lbs, 5 foot 2 inches, fourteen. My starting weight was 83 lbs and even though it's killing me I need to gain more. I'm eating 1200 calories, but I NEED to speed this up. How many cals should I eat everyday to get to about 90 or more in 7 days? Thanksyaa <3
BTW: I am a vegetarian, and not a vegan. I will not submit to doing this unhealthily either.

Eating 1200 calories, you won't gain weight. Your BMR is approximately 1100, so unless you are literally sleeping all day, you're burning more than 1200 calories a day just staying alive. You may gain weight on 1200 calories for a little while, because of the damage you have done to your metabolism, but as your body adjusts, you will stop gaining again.

Your ideal calorie intake really depends on how much activity you get every day. A safe number to shoot for would be somewhere between 1500 and 1600 calories. Even that may be too few though. But it's probably best to start slow. Try increasing your calories to 1300 for a week, then 1400 the next, then 1500 the next. Monitor your weight to see what your gain looks like and find a place where you're comfortable with the rate of gain and with the amount of food you're eating.

If the amount of food is too much, try adding a few handfuls of cashews, pecans and almonds to your diet. These are full of healthy fats and are very high in calories, so it should be easy to eat enough to supplement your diet. Avocados and bananas are also higher calorie choices that you can add to your diet. When you eat vegetables, add some healthy oil or butter to them to up the calorie content. If you eat dairy, adding some full fat yogurts, whole milk, or a few slices of cheese to your diet could also help you along.

I don't know why I'm answering this question...I'm recovering anorexic too...ha ha.

but I know since I'm also a heath junkie (ironic I know :P) that the average teenager about your age (and mine!) should be eating around 1800 calories and 2000 or more if you are active. Since you are putting on weight I would recommend anywhere above 2000.

But, I know I can't just be like EAT 2000!!! I know where your coming from cause I'm trying to eat more myself right now..so what I'm doing is gradually increasing it week by week.

What I do is when I was Anorexic I would eat like 500 cals, and then now since I've gotten better, I fill the rest of my calories will lots and lots of veggies, it helps cause I don't feel as guilty.

Recovering Anorexic



I think being a vegetarian is pretty irrational, we are Human, we are omnivores we eat both vegetables and meat...
I don't see any ways to gain weight fast without eating meat or fish or any kind of animal
You can't think of meat and fish as animals... it'll make you think that they died... and stuff but they aren't Intelligent enough to get sad xD
I'm not a vegetarian nor i know anybody who is but this is my opinion...



up the calories to about 1600- 2000.
Eat plenty of protein and healthy fats.
Since you're vegetarian- nuts, beans, and avocados are good foods to try and put into your meals



well, you wont gain much fat from just fruits and vegetables aha But i guess you could eat more junk food, that will pile on the fat



To either maintain ur current weight or gain weight ull need to eat about 1500-1800 calories a day. good luck!
