What exactly does "stone" mean when referring to weight?!

Question: What exactly does "stone" mean when referring to weight?
I've seen in the dieting section, people referring to their weight in stone. For example, "I weigh 7 stone and want to lose weight..." or "Is 4 stone too heavy for a 10 year old." How much weight is 1 stone? I'm from the USA, so I don't know where these people are that they use the term, "stone" when referencing weight. I'm used to pounds (lbs) or kilograms(kg) when speaking of weight. I also know 2.2 lbs is equal to 1 kg so what equals 1 stone? Thanks!

Answers:

There are 14lbs in one stone. A stone is an imperial measurement used largely in the UK.

1 stone = 14 pounds. That measurement is mostly used in the UK.
