Atkins Diet does it work?!

Question: Atkins Diet does it work?
I am getting married in 2 months and need to loose some weight fast to fit in my dress properly.
My friend has told me to try the Atkins Diet.
Does it work?
How much can I loose?
Also how would I start off with it, should I just buy the book?
Is the diet hard to follow.

Thanks!

All the info needed to do the program is freely available on the Atkins website. I suggest picking up a book at a thrift stores.

Weight loss depends on metabolic resistance. If your body has a low metabolic resistance you will lose more weight in 14 days than if your body has a high metabolic resistance. You can determine your metabolic resistance either being high, average, or low after 14 days of following the Induction Phase. Here is a list of the Degrees of Metabolic Resistance:

Pounds you have to lose: - High Average Low Resistance
Less than 20lbs: -------------- 2lbs - 4lbs - 6lbs
20 - 50lbs: ----------------------- 3lbs - 6lbs - 9lbs
Over 50lbs: ---------------------- 4lbs - 8lbs -12lbs

The first week's weight loss is just water weight. It takes 3 days to deplete glycogen stores & they hold 3x their weight in water, so it's like wringing out a sponge. If you refill glycogen stores in one day, you will regain this water & look like you gained 5# overnight. People do low carb for a week lose 5#, go eat pizza & regain the weight overnight & say Atkins doesn't work lol.

You can lose more body fat eating protein & fat (don't eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast, eat all you want, but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter & half an avocado a day (for added potassium). Keep the calories high & the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.

The first 2 weeks eat several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce & celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers & more variety of vegetables thereafter - add 5 grams per day additional every week (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) til you gain weight, then subtract 10grams. That will be your personal carb level (everyone is different & depends on how active you are.)

Start with meat, fats & salads for 2 weeks and then slowly add in more green veg, wk4 fresh cheeses, wk5 nuts & seeds, wk6 berries, wk7 legumes, wk8 other fruits, wk9 starchy veg, wk10 whole grains. You will learn how your body reacts to different foods.

The first week is just water weight but fat is lost thereafter if you keep your calories high enough. Otherwise the body will strip it's own lean tissue for nutrition. Although that may look great on a scale it will make it MUCH easier to accumulate fat in the future (since all that pesky lean tissue burning up calories will be gone). The body won't release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow metabolism to compensate & store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering calories, it will continue lowering the set point, til it can survive off nothing & store fat on anything. The body will only release it's fat stores if it knows there is plenty of nutritious food.

Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) & exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.

The core of Atkins program is converting the body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). Dietary fat levels need to be at >65% of total calories, if not, the body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).

It takes minimum of 3 days to convert a body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycolysis). People feel sluggish the first week but most feel better than ever thereafter.

Carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice, beans) trigger insulin (the ONLY fat storage hormone). Protein triggers the fat burning hormone glucagon.

Simple carbs are addictive & can be disastrous to health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a batch of deviled eggs, eat one every time you want "something" - have huge omelets with bacon, sausage, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Meats smothered with peppers, mushrooms & cheese - pork rinds & dip or tuna/chicken/turkey/egg salad - sugar free cheese cake. Eat so much you won't feel deprived of anything. By the 4th day, the addiction will be gone & you can start making healthy choices.

High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger & unbalance other hormones. Controlling insulin levels will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so lean muscle will be gained even without exercise.

Ground flax seed (2 Tbsp) 1/4 cup water, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg - let sit 10 min. to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle & nuke 2 min for daily fiber needs.

As long as you have <9grams carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control & shouldn't gain weight, no matter the calories because insulin, the fat storage hormone is not activated.

Dr.Atkins was a cardiologist, low carb was a health plan easier sold as a "diet" Read any of his books for easily understandable science. Normalizing blood pressure, blood sugar, insulin, cholesterol, triglyercerides & hormone levels are all bonus features of doing a low carb way of eating. Lutz "Life without Bread" & Taubes "Good calories, Bad calories" are excellent books that dispel all the nutrition myths.

I can NOT recommend the Atkins bars or shakes for weight loss. They claim "sugar alcohols don't count" but I have heard from hundreds of people that can't lose with them included in their plan.

hi, I was having this same issue for so long that it seemed hopeless. I used to buy all types of products. Until I found this website by accident, I was doubtful at first. there was a bit of improvement for the first 2 weeks, but I was starting to love it. After losing that initial weight, which was quite uplifting, I started eating right to keep off the weight completely. I couldn't believe I didn't try this sooner. I hope I've provided good information: allloseweightsource.tk

Thera a lot of old copies of the book in thrift stores. that's where I picked up mine and read it. The old version of the diet is good for losing about 15 or 20 pounds before you burn out and get tired of it. It did me a lot of good. I lost 15 pounds and established a low-carb diet. I had lactose intolerance very severe before I went on it, and now I seldom take lactase as I can have moderate amounts of dairy with no discomfort. My theory is that the body produces lactase in the pancreas, and if you have any blood sugar issues the pancreas can become inflamed. Now I think my pancreas are pretty much back to normal, but I only take carbs that have high fiber, like whole grains, etc.

the diet works if u have discipline... its not a ketogenic diet (completely getting rid of carbs except for first few weeks i think) but it definately is a carb reduced diet.. the diet will 100% make u lose weight because in those first few weeks when u are in a state of ketosis, using fat as fuel (ketones) instead of carbs (glycogen)... at that point ur body will be completely be emptied of carbs which will mean u wont retain much water because carbs retain water... at that point however whatever carbs u eat will regain lots of water and gain much more weight but that is expected. so if u are wondering weight on the scale then yes it is 100% certain u will lose weight (however this is water weight) but if u want to lose body fat u have to incorporate having a calorie reduced diet or exercise...

any questions put in additional details or IM me il answer

athlete, currently on anabolic diet which is a ketogenic/ carb cycling diet
