How long will it take to lose 2 jean sizes?!

Question: How long will it take to lose 2 jean sizes?
Im a guy, and almost 16. I wear a size 40 (I know not good). How long would it take to drop down to a size 36? If I were to work out and eat better how long will it take? I already rarely drink pop and I don't eat fast food at all including subway, kfc, stake n' shake etc. What kind of work out should I do, how long, and how much, how many times a day? I got a tread-mill at home and a gym membership. I am 6'0ft and 291 pounds. I would like to be at 180 pounds eventually but how long would it take to lose 30 pounds? Would 30 pounds be enough to go from a size 40 to 36? or atleast 38? how many shirt sizes could I lose by going from 291 pounds to 261 pounds (30pounds).

Hey Matt!

You should never be concerned with how quickly you can lose weight, but whether or not you will be able to adapt to a healthier lifestyle that will get you to a healthy weight and enable you to maintain that weight. Most of the time, losing weight at a rapid pace results in a rapid weight gain after the rapid weight loss regimen comes to an end.

Being overweight, you will lose weight at a more rapid pace if you are currently sedentary. Your body will be adapting to a stimulus it is not used to and react accordingly.

With regard to exercise, strength training is the key to weight loss. It is the only form of exercise that creates a physiological stimulus that enables your body to burn fat more efficiently.

Do total body strength training sessions every 72 hours (2 days a week, to allow adequate recovery). Make sure you perform every exercise until you reach momentary muscle failure (the point at which you can no longer move the weight) Make sure you have a training partner with you at all times!!! Reaching muscle failure enables you to do only 1 set of each exercise and is the most efficient, effective way to train. These workouts typically last 30 minutes and target your leg (leg press, leg curl and leg extension OR leg press, abduction, adduction), upper back, chest, shoulders and midsection. 10-12 exercises will cover everything.

Feel free to do cardio as often as you want (but not after your strength training session). However, you should note that cardio is NOT the key to weight loss. It improves cardiovascular health, but does not help your body burn fat. Also, if you are sedentary, start gradually....especially if you are running, you will be placing a lot of impact on your joints and if you have not been strength training, you will not have sufficient muscle mass to support your joints during that impact.

FOCUS ON YOUR DIET. Even if you're eating healthy, you could eat 3000 calories worth of strawberries and 1500 calories worth of fast food a day and you will lose weight with the fast food because of the caloric deficit you are creating. Now, this is just an example!! I would never recommend that you fill your diet with junk food. It's just to stress that no matter what you're eating, as long as you are intaking less than you are expending, you will lose weight! Try using sparkpeople.com to track your calories (literally EVERYTHING that you eat, even if you sneak one ship from the bag)...it might surprise you how much you are actually intaking!

Just be patient, never rush a healthy lifestyle. It will be so much more beneficial in the long run. AND so much easier to actually maintain once you have reached your goal. Good luck! Just stay committed and you can rock this :)

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE:CUTTING OUT CARBOHYDRATES IS NOT THE KEY TO WEIGHT LOSS. Carbohydrates are a very important factor in providing your body with the energy it needs to function. Practice a balanced diet while maintaining a caloric deficit!

If you want to lost around the waist start running and doing sit ups. Do sit ups for 15 minutes a day. (or 100 situps a day maybe more)

If you exercise, quit eating junk food, give up the ice cream and eat plenty of fresh fruits and veggies, you can probably count on losing 1/2 pound per day. That will bring you down 2 jean sizes in abut 2-3 week. I did it in 2 weeks and always weigh yourself first thing in the morning, or the same time each day. The first thing in the morning is the best but go pee before weighing. Weigh with no clothes on or the same garment every day to know where you are at. I make sure my curtains are closed before I weigh and keep the door close but this helps. Also keep a diary. I have a super one called "I Will Lose Weight This Time Diet Journa"l with 100 helpful tips for weight loss,
I am down 4 jean sizes now and plan to keep using it. Good luck!
