But are you really hungry?

If a person eats poorly then its quite easy to fool it into thinking it needs more food when it doesn't. High processed carbohydrate and sugary foods are the worst things to eat, which lead to this effect.

Next time you think you are hungry drink a pint of water, and only water... if after 20 minutes your stomach is still churning away either have a light snack if there's a long period before your next meal, or wait until your next meal time.

Ways around feeling hungry are simple. You have to eat enough to satisfy your appetite, and at the same time be able to slowly digest over a period of several hours. If you can do this three or four times a day you will be eating less (although you don;t state your calorie requirement, age, height or weight to compare). A good tip is to eat a large breakfast, a decent or small lunch, and then either another small or decent size evening meal, and if you absolutely must have something during the day eat a portion of fruit.

Another thing you can do is keep a food diary for about ten days, assess yourself and look at ways to change your diet for the better. Making/changing a diet is not easy, even more so if you just wing it from day to day. You really have to put some effort and a fair amount of time into deciding what to eat and when, and then also making sure you stick to it.

First off, make sure you are actually eating enough. Check your height and weight, calculate your bmi. If you are in the healthy range, your fine and should eat when you are hungry. If your underweight, but still feel you need to loose weight, see your doctor. you could be developing an eating disorder. If you are overweight, it could be that you have gotten into some unhealthy eating habits. When you think you are hungry, ask yourself "Am I really hungry?" Or are you bored, upset, or just a habit that you eat at that time of day. If you are truly hungry and it's not a meal or snack time, have a glass of water and wait 20 minuets. If after 20 minuets you are still hungry, have a healthy snack such as a piece of fruit. Also, check that you are eating the right type of food. Avoid foods high in sugar, these provide you with short term Energy and will soon leave you feeling tired and hungry again. Eat foods high in fibre, starch and protein, these will keep you full for longer. If you have further issues, or you find your eating habits are strongly related to emotional issues, see your doctor.
Best of luck!

I had the same dilemma, but that all turn around when I started working out during the night times, and then eating a healthy snack afterward. Works for me. You should drink lots of water and eat a big breakfast with plenty of fiber, small lunch, then a medium dinner. Eat at least two snacks a day like low-fat Greek yogurt with granola and an apple, any type of nuts (cashews, almonds, pecans...) , or half a peanut butter honey and banana sandwich in between meals. Hope this helps.

Personal experience.

No when your hungry, Your hungry. there's no getting around it. You can't just starve yourself though. choose healthier foods to eat. like veggies and fruits. You don't hav to eat them like crazy though. just eat them in between meals. as a snack or on the side.
