Question: If i worked out 3 days a week what kind of results would i see?
I am 16 years old, 160 pounds 5'11.. out of shape

i want to start working out 30 mins a day 3 days a week, mon-wed-friday, so i am wondering what kind of results would i see after three weeks?

Answers:

You should do total body workouts at a high intensity every 72 hours (to allow adequate recovery). Total body means targeting: chest, upper back, shoulders, legs (leg press, leg curl, leg extension) and 1-2 abdominal exercises.
Performing 1 set of each exercise to momentary muscle failure (the point at which you can no longer physically move the weight) is the most efficient, most EFFECTIVE way to strength train.
Strength training is key to weight loss as you increase your muscle mass (which increases your basal metabolic rate - the amount of calories your body burns at rest throughout a 24 hour period - improving your body's ability to burn fat)
Cardiovascular exercise (running, elliptical, stairmaster) is not the key to losing weight, but is important for maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system.
If you are looking to lose weight, focus on strength training and intaking less calories than you are expending and you will see amazing results!
Intensity is the key to seeing awesome results in your workouts so make sure you are pushing yourself, it will be uncomfortable but exercise isn't made to be fun. It's benefits come from overloading your muscles and enabling your body to make physiological changes to improve your health.

stop listening to these to these complex answers. If you are trying to get in shape, lose some fat, gain some muscle, just go to the gym 3-4 times a week, do some sit ups when you get home, and start getting rid of the twinkies for lunch. Based on your weight-height, it doesn't sound like your fat. I suggest just going 3 times a week could get you some decent muscle and a six pack (which is why im guessing your doing this cause chicks dig six packs). I went to the gym 4 times a week for 7 weeks of drinking protein shakes to get my six pack and im 14.

1. what kind of "workout"?
2. how intense is the workout?
4. what are your eating habits?

these three things will alter results.
that being said, i can't see 30 mins a day doing a WHOLE lot, though if its more than what you're doing now it could help.

ill go out on a limb and predict 3-10 lbs off in 3 weeks. if you eat a lot of salad.
