Answers:

Start out by eating right. You might not have to eat less, but get the pizza and cookies out of your house and replace them with real foods like fruit, vegetables, and meats. Things with refined sugar or white bread in them are the worst for you and turn right into fat! Avoid fast food and eat at home. Don't drink soda or juice, just have water instead. Have a glass or two of water before every meal.

Next, try and exercise for a long period of time. Just doing sit ups will not make you lose weight; you may have stronger abs, but who is going to see them if they are covered by fat? Exercising for a long period of time will burn fat and allow your abs to show. If you can't jog or run for an hour, try taking a walk for hour. Don't push yourself too hard at first. Listen to some music and enjoy the scenery.

Once you can walk for an hour, try jogging for five minutes then walking 10 minutes for an entire hour. Then, if you can do that, try jogging for five minutes then walking five minutes, then try jogging 10 minutes and walking 10 minutes, then try jogging 10 minutes and walking five minutes, etc. until you can jog for almost an entire hour. I like to use the website www.mapmyrun.com so I can see how far I've ran each day. Keeping track of distance or time can really motivate you because you will see how much better you are getting.

Don't try to rush it too much, just try to stick with it. Don't worry about your weight, just make sure you can get that exercise in at least 5 days of the week. Most people will actually gain weight when they start exercising, but this is not a bad thing. Your body will be putting on muscle that will metabolize your fat for energy. Consider joining the cross-country/swim/etc team at your high school. This will help you stick with your goal to lose weight and make new friends.

If you have been exercising every day, running or something else for an hour, and you are either consistently gaining weight not dropping any weight, then you may need to start cutting back on your calories. If you are still improving at running/whatever consistently then this is not something you need to worry about. If you're just running the same amount every day though and aren't getting any faster or running any further, then you will to do this. There are two options:

1) Cut back all your calories evenly - This is the hardest for most people. Most people will manage to cut back their calories for a few days, then feel terrible, start eating more, and rebound. I would not recommend this, but it is also what I have been doing to lose weight. The best thing to remember when doing this is split up your meals into several small ones. If you are deathly hungry, try to satisfy your desire for food by picking a small meal, no more than 300 calories, and eating it slowly. You may find that you are hungry every few hours, but this is okay because you can eat these small meals up to 6 times a day and still burn enough calories to lose weight.

2) Eliminate one thing a week - This is easier. If you have a couple of things that you know you should stop eating, try and switch it out with something healthier for a week. For instance, if you always eat 2 bowls of cereal in the afternoon, try to replace it with just one apple. If you do this slowly enough, you will hardly notice how much less you are eating.

Finally, realize that losing weight can take a long time. It is more important that you focus on starting healthy habits like exercising 5 days a week and eliminating unhealthy foods from your diet rather than losing weight in the short term. It takes all of these things combined to help you lose the weight and keep it off. Just try to get better at one of these things every day and you will eventually have the power to get rid of your belly fat. You are only 14 and have a lot of time to get into these healthy habits. If you have not had your period then you are probably going to grow quite a bit still and look thinner without even trying.

I myself was 210 pounds when I was 14 years old and was incredibly fat looking. In 10th grade, I started running cross-country. In the beginning, I could not even run a mile, but I stuck with it. In about three months I could run 5 miles a day without thinking about it and was faster than some of the kids that could run 5 miles when we started. I still hadn't lost any weight at the end of the season, but then suddenly lost 30 lbs and grew several inches taller. After that I had the confidence to make friends that I never had before. It was probably the best thing I ever decided to do. I am still not super skinny, but look thin enough to not be noticeably fat and am working on putting off the last few pounds.

Good Luck!

that belly isn't going away anytime soon, unless you give up the pizza and oreos. It sounds like that might be where you store your fat so guess what, that's the last place it'll disappear from So even if you see yourself losing weight in other parts of your body, that one single oreo or slice of pizza will go to your waistline every single time. And you'll never get rid of that "baby belly" until you combine the exercise with healthier eating/drinking.

As for exercise, it takes a while to build up your stamina so don't give up. If 20 minutes is a struggle, just do the 20 minutes at a pace that's only slightly uncomfortable until it starts to get easier. Once you feel like "Oh, this 20 minutes is no problem, I don't know why I used to have such a hard time with it!"--and you'll get there if you keep working hard, I promise... and it shouldn't take much more than a week to do it, either, or you're not pushing yourself enough in each 20 minute session--but once you feel like you've conquered 20 minutes, increase the time to 25 minutes. Every time you reach that milestone, add another 5 minutes or so until you're doing between 30 and 45 minutes a day on average. Once you're up to 45 minutes a day and you feel like you've still got energy to spare at the end of your sessions, then start upping the intensity. You should always be just a little beyond your comfort level, but it should never ever be painful!!

Biggest tip? Remember, it takes time--there's no magic fairy dust (or instant diet) that makes it happen overnight; if you want the body, you have to work for it, plain and simple!

losing weight is so hard! :( i would eat around 1200 calories a day and eat pizza once a week. Your young i messed up my metabolism when i was around this age by hard core dieting so be careful and get exercise even if its dancing in your room an hour a day of moving walking/swimming/dancing
