Eating Binge possible?!

Question: Eating Binge possible?
I am a pretty physically fit guy. I normally eat very healthy and I work out 6 days a week, doing weightlifting and cardio. This last weekend I decided to smoke weed with my buddy and got high. I started to eat like crazy and I totalled up the calories. I ended up consuming roughly 8,000 calories that day. The next day I had a few slices of pizza and when I went to the gym I weighed in at 159.6lbs. This means I gained 5lbs in a single night. I don't think this is possible considering that 3500 calories equal one pound, and I don't know if consuming 3500 calories in excess for one day will guarantee weight gain. So my question, Is it possible to gain even a pond of fat in a single night of over eating?

Answers:

NO. You cannot gain 5 pounds of fat in a single night of bingeing. What you are seeing is water weight. The sodium in (what I'm assuming was junk food, and the pizza) contains a heck of a lot of sodium which makes you retain water. You will be fine, you didn't get "fat" overnight. Promise. :) Another mistake a lot of people make is to weigh themselves everyday. Not accurate. Weigh yourself once a week, same time of day (best in the am) and wearing the same amount of clothing, and better if you haven't eaten. Otherwise. you're going to see your numbers up and down because water retention happens to all of us, especially later in the day, and is not really a weight gain. Best wishes. :)
