Question: How many calories do we NEED a day?
I do not mean for the person trying to lose weight.

I mean how many calories does the human body need to function properly and not go into starvation mode, is it 800??

Your BMR is how many calories your body burns if you just sat on the couch all day. Here is a BMR calculator: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calcul…
The rule of thumb is to not go under 1200 calories, because after that your body thinks it's starving and saves every little calorie and stores it as fat. Try eat 200-300 less than your BMR if you're trying to lose weight. If you're trying to maintain weight, either eat at your BMR or eat above and do moderate excercise.

Hey , I have a simple solution for dieting for you, You need to combine some exercise with a nutritional diet, try using the program that I found on this website, it worked for me, I lost 40 pounds in 6 months and I have been able to keep it off.

The program points you towards better eating habits and some exercise, if you will follow it, you will lose weight, give it a try if you like. Link is below.

I'd say you'd need at least as much as your BMR, which is the amount of calories your body will use in one day if you do nothing but lie in bed. That's normally at least 1400 calories.

You won't go into starvation mode eating 1400 calories, but your metabolism will still slow down after a while. If you are doing a reduced calories diet it is good to have one day a week where you eat around 2000 calories to jumpstart your metabolism.

If you eat too few calories for a while, your body will use up your muscle (not fat) to get energy and lower your metabolism so that it can still function. If you eat too little for too long then eventually it won't have enough energy reserves and will start damaging your internal organs. Starvation mode is a real thing, and you can read up on it here: http://teenfatloss.blogspot.com/2010/11/…

Your body doesn't go into starvation mode until you only consume 50% of the calories you need. A good estimate is usually 10 times your weight to maintain

0. a human can live for up to 2 months with no food. there is no such thing as "starvation mode" lol. you should be having atleast 500 though.

It depends on a lot of factors. Gender, weight, height, age. Can't really give a general number.

i do 1200
