Fruits and vegetables only?!

Question: Fruits and vegetables only?
I really want to lose quite a bit of weight in a relatively short amount of time (50 pounds in 5 or 6 months). Do you think (if I can actually do this) just fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, etc., would be a good way to go? Of course, I want to incorporate exercise too, at least 30 minutes of walking per day.

No. You need more protein. If you don't eat protein, you body will start to burn muscle instead of fat. Nuts & seeds have too much fat to be your only source of protein. Try adding lean chicken or tofu, Don't forget your carbs. Eat complex carbs from whole grains & beans.
Try the Gillian McKeith diet. She's the author of You Are What You Eat and has a show on BBC America. It's similar to what you are trying to do.

Be very careful about doing this, because you run a very real risk of depriving yourself of protein and vitamin B, which can make you ill.

You can and should eat meat or a meat substitute every day. It will even help your weight loss.

Also, I strongly suggest joining a group like Weightwatchers, more for the moral support and food guidelines more than anything else, I found the system to be very helpful in terms of portion control.

Lots of vegetables, much less fruit. You must learn about balancing beans and rice etc, because you will not be getting enzymes and amino acids you normally get from meat. You can find out by getting vegan vegatarian books, or online.
Excercise is good, but far more important is learning about food, as above.
Big mistake to eat only veg and fruit.
Without knowing your height and weight, you need about 60 grams of protein and 25 grams of fiber each and every day. Read labels.

Calories are calories - regardless of the source.

You "require" all your essential nutrients. They arent "suggestions" - they are requirements. If you lack nutrients, your body will trigger the hunger hormone, causing you to eat again. If your still eating, and not getting the nutrients to feed your body - you'll only get larger.

Metabolism is a TYPE not a scale.

i think that sticking to fruit and vegetables is a good idea but you should really eat some protein as well. i suggest you stick to poultry and fish as your protein sources.

Just eat healthy! Water is crucial and green tea jump starts your metabolism (:

... probably sounds like a good diet to me.. =)
